Job summary An exciting opportunity has arisen for a full time, permanent band 6 Speech and Language Therapist (SLT) to work with the Stroke Early Supported Discharge Team based at North Tyneside General Hospital. We are looking for an enthusiastic and collaborative multi-disciplinary team (MDT) player with excellent communication skills. The successful candidate will have skills in the assessment and management of aphasia, apraxia and dysarthria and swallowing disorders, and deliver support to service users in their own homes following discharge from hospital. Main duties of the job The postholder will hold a specialist clinical caseload within ESDT of only people with a stroke. Our stroke service focuses on streamlined, connected, patient centred care through each step of the patient's stroke journey from their admission to hospital, their acute rehabilitation and facilitating their ongoing care on discharge back to the community. The successful candidate will work closely alongside the multi-disciplinary team and be supported by the ESDT Team lead and wider adult SLT team, with links to the adult community SLT team meetings. There is access to a team of dedicated rehabilitation assistants who can provide daily input into people's homes. There will be the opportunity to spend one session per week of in-reach work onto the stroke rehabilitation ward at North Tyneside General Hospital to facilitate seamless care. The post holder will have the opportunity to develop skills with a stroke specific caseload within the context of a supportive speech and language therapy team and as part of a cohesive and collaborative MDT. You will be supported to develop clinical competencies in the areas of dysphagia and communication assessments and management. You will have access to a videofluoroscopy clinic and FEES with the support of senior colleagues. Structured support and supervision is provided.
