An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced commercial lawyer to join a dynamic legal team at a global retail business. This role offers the chance to work on a diverse range of matters for the European region, including drafting and negotiating commercial contracts, ensuring compliance with various laws impacting retailers, and managing select litigation. The ideal candidate will have at least eight years of experience with a large corporation or law firm, with preference given to those with additional language skills (preference for Spanish or French). Our client’s office is based in Hertfordshire with an on-site working arrangement (5 days a week in office). There may be some travel to Europe and the United States on an as needs basis.
Reporting to the Legal Director, key responsibilities will include:
* Drafting, reviewing and negotiating a variety of commercial contracts for the UK and European markets.
* Ensuring compliance with laws impacting retailers such as consumer protection issues and packaging and labelling laws.
* Advising on trade and competition law matters.
* Reviewing marketing and advertising materials.
* Managing select litigation.
* Working closely with support and operational teams across Europe and the United States.
* Assisting in the development and delivery of efficient legal processes.
* Working with external counsel where necessary to ensure value and delivery within required time frames.
The ideal candidate will have the following skills and attributes:
* Qualified lawyer either in the UK or other jurisdiction, with at least 8 years’ PQE either in-house or with a law firm.
* Prior experience in retail, FMCG, e-commerce or logistics will be beneficial.
* Strong knowledge of commercial and corporate law; exposure to European or international markets is desirable.
* Fluent in English and another European language (preference for Spanish or French).
* Excellent business judgement and ability to assess legal risk.
* Strong execution and project management skills.
* Exceptional communication, analytical and writing skills.
