An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, highly motivated clinical nurse specialist in Haemoglobinopathy team in the specialised medicine directorate, based at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital.
We are seeking an experienced and caring individual with a genuine interest in Hemoglobinopathy to work within the team supporting both in and outpatients across the trust.
The post holder will operate as an independent practitioner/ clinical expert with in-depth knowledge and experience of haemoglobinopathy.
Candidates will have extensive experience of health care governance, education and development, audit and incident investigation. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in Trust wide and Regional safety initiatives and improvement projects relating to haemoglobinopathy.
Main duties of the job
To provide high quality patient services and specialist care for people with haemoglobinopathy disorders. All aspects of care of the sickle cell, rare inherited anaemias and thalassaemia patient: supporting inpatients and the nurses looking after them on general ward, as well as coordinating outpatient treatments and care in the day unit.
Provide leadership to junior members of the haemoglobinopathy team inclusive of cross cover for the Senior Clinical Nurse Specialist Team Leader.
To support the Clinical Nurse Specialists, providing clinical and managerial expertise in all aspects of the specialty ensuring the highest standard of nursing care.

Education and Qualification
Essential criteria
1. Registered General Nurse
2. Nursing Degree
3. To have completed the national PEAP programme for practice supervisors or equivalent teaching and assessing qualification for those with ENB998.
4. Evidence of post registration academic development
Desirable criteria
5. Evidence of knowledge and expertise in the care and management of haemoglobinopathy patients
6. Willingness to undertake study at Masters level, Non medical prescribing
Experience
Essential criteria
7. Substantial post registration experience
8. Excellent organisational and communication skills
9. Ability to manage change and develop services effectively
10. Ability to work independently and autonomously, across disciplines as a member of the multidisciplinary team
Desirable criteria
11. Clinical experience and care of patients with haemoglobinopathy disorders
12. Evidence of teaching and assessing and commitment to professional development and education
Skills and Knowledge
Essential criteria
13. Up to date knowledge of current clinical and professional issues
14. An understanding of audit and research-based nursing practice
