A Consultant in Emergency Medicine is required to join the existing team of Consultants at the Fairfield General Hospital. This appointment [10 PAs which includes 2.5 SPA's] will be made in accordance with the 2003 Consultant Contract Terms and Conditions.
A formal job plan will be reviewed between the appointee and the Clinical Lead, three months after the commencement date of the appointee. The exact timetable will be flexible, arranged in discussion with the appointee ensuring that it meets the requirements of the new Consultant contract and service needs of the Division. This will be approved by the Medical Director. The Job Plan will then be reviewed at least annually.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will have continuing responsibility for the care of patients in his or her charge and for the proper functioning of the service, and will undertake the administrative duties associated with the care of patients and the running of the clinical department.
The post holder will be required to work in partnership with colleagues of all disciplines, external links to the Trust and service users, to ensure the creation of a quality service.
The post holder will supervise the work of junior colleagues and provide advice & support as necessary.
The post holder is required to obtain the FRCEM, be entered onto the Specialist Register, and have been on a recognized training program.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Primary Medical Qualification (e.g., MBChB)
* FRCEM or show evidence of equivalent training and experience
* Post Graduate Degree (e.g., MD, PhD, MSc)
* Recognised sub-speciality training
Professional Registration
* Full registration with the General Medical Council
* A valid licence to practice with the General Medical Council
* Entry onto the Specialist Register or a Specialist Register within 6 months of the award of their CCT in Emergency Medicine (or recognised equivalent if outside the UK) of the date of interview
* Evidence of Accredited Clinical & Educational Supervision of Medical Learners
Experience and Clinical Skills
* Wide experience in Emergency Medicine
* Broad experience in the management of all aspects of Emergency Medicine
* Good practical clinical skills
* Governance and the ethical aspects of Emergency Medicine
* An understanding of the importance of evidence-based practice
* Evidence of participation in QIPP or audit cycles
* Publication or research articles, demonstrating the understanding of research methodology and commitments
