Our Stoke Community Drug and Alcohol service are looking for a registered HCPC Practitioner Psychologist to join them in providing high-quality recovery care to a diverse client group.
Main duties of the job
As a Practitioner Psychologist, you will join the service to support them in radically improving people's chances of recovering from the negative effects of substance use by directly offering effective, evidence-based psychological interventions and by supporting and supervising the service's frontline staff to improve the quality of their psychosocial interventions. As part of your role, you will hold a specialist caseload of service users with co-existing substance use and mental health needs, including trauma. You will liaise with referrers, GPs, and other professionals and multidisciplinary teams.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Postgraduate Doctoral level training (BPS accredited) in clinical or counselling psychology, or equivalent
* Registered with the HCPC as a Practitioner Psychologist, and evidence of continuing professional development as required by the HCPC
* Should you be successful in your application, you will be required to provide 3 years worth of references and where applicable, will need to undergo an enhanced DBS check. This role is also subject to Staffordshire Police Vetting.
Experience
* To be successful in this role you will have:
* Demonstrable experience of having worked as a qualified practitioner psychologist (e.g. clinical, or counselling) under the supervision of a more senior member of the profession for a minimum of 1 year
* Post-qualification experience in psychological assessment and treatment of service users with a range of psychological needs of a complex nature including substance use for a minimum of 1 year
* Demonstrable experience of working with people affected by trauma
* Experience of effective teamwork
* Knowledge of legislation in relation to the service user group including mental health issues, child and adult safeguarding, and equality
* Ability to communicate skilfully and sensitively complex and sensitive information with service users, carers and colleagues overcoming barriers to communication including sensory and emotional difficulties, cultural differences and hostility to or rejection of information
* Sound knowledge of the evidence base, range of treatment options and psychosocial interventions and service issues for people with problematic substance misuse, their families and carers
* Knowledge of best practice approaches and service issues linked to trauma-informed care
* Well-developed IT skills including entry and analysis of research data
