What's involved with this role: Temporary Facilities Assistant x 2 Job Ref: Barnsley 0009 7AD1 / 1 Pay Rate: £12.18 per hour PAYE Hours per week: 37 Monday - Friday, normal working hours Role Length: This opening assignment is for 2 months City: Barnsley We need 2 people to work separate shifts 4 days out of 7. Shift 1 - Monday 7am to 6pm, Wednesday 12pm to 6pm, Thursday 7am to 6pm, Sunday 7am to 6pm (TBC). Shift 2 - Tuesday 7am to 6pm, Wednesday 7am to 1pm, Friday 7am to 6pm, Saturday 7am to 6pm. The Facilities Assistant will be responsible for ensuring that all designated areas are maintained in a clean, safe, and attractive condition, contributing to the success of the market and supporting the town centre. This role involves working both independently and as part of a team to provide essential services and uphold high standards of maintenance and customer service. Key Responsibilities: Maintenance & Cleanliness. Ensure all areas are clean, safe, and appealing to support market and town centre objectives. Separate recyclable materials from waste streams, operate waste compactors, and keep refuse areas clean, safe, and well-maintained. Collaboration & Teamwork. Foster strong working relationships with traders, tenants, and lessees. Work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team to deliver essential services. Premises & Equipment Management. Assist with locking and unlocking premises. Erect and dismantle temporary stalls or other equipment, ensuring it is safely stored and maintained at the end of trading days or events. Maintain equipment in good working order, conduct minor maintenance tasks, and ensure safe operation of all issued tools. Customer Service & Public Interaction Qualifications: First Aid qualification desirable. Skills & Experience: Minimum of 12 months recent experience in a similar role, or context and ideally within a public sector organisation. Previous experience in a facilities or maintenance role is desirable. Strong teamwork skills and ability to develop positive relationships with market stakeholders. Ability to perform physically demanding tasks with precision and attention to detail. Good communication and customer service skills, with a proactive approach to resolving issues. Strong IT skills including Microsoft packages or equivalent (e.g. G Suite).
