Duties and Responsibilities:
* Route Planning & Job Allocation: Plan daily routes for artic vehicles, allocate jobs efficiently, and ensure maximum vehicle utilization while optimizing the profitability of both the own fleet and subcontractors.
* Return Load & Backload Revenue: Source return loads and maximize backload opportunities to increase revenue and reduce empty running.
* Vehicle Scheduling & Movements: Schedule vehicle movements and arrange collections from off-site locations to ensure smooth operations.
* Driver Communication: Manage day-to-day communication with drivers, addressing any issues or changes to schedules and routes throughout the day.
* Driver Support: Resolve driver issues related to planning and bookings, and coordinate with the Group Transport Manager to optimize shift potential. Support drivers in adhering to all health, safety, and legal regulations, ensuring compliance with the Working Time Directive and driver hours regulations.
* Failed Deliveries Management: Manage failed deliveries, ensuring re-booking while retaining customer confidence in re-delivery, and communicate with all parties involved.
* KPI Management & Subcontractor Oversight: Monitor and achieve key performance indicators related to mileage, revenue, and on-time performance.
Skills and Competencies:
* Experience: Minimum of 1-2 years’ experience in HGV transport planning, specifically with artic vehicles, or a similar logistics role.
* Organizational Skills: Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
* Communication Skills: Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage and resolve issues effectively with drivers, customers, and other departments.
* Problem Solving: Able to work under pressure, think quickly, and adapt to changes, finding practical solutions in real-time.
* TMS Knowledge: Experience with transport management systems (TMS) and accurate data entry processes.
* Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with HGV driving regulations and the Working Time Directive, ensuring operations are fully compliant with industry standards.
