Main duties of the job
1. Act as a professional role model to junior and non-qualified support staff.
2. Provide skilled assistance and care to patients in the operating theatre.
3. Assess care needs of the perioperative patient and develop, implement, and evaluate programmes of care, rectifying and adjusting to meet individual needs.
4. Demonstrate knowledge of current research, practices, and procedures within the specialist field.
5. Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with the multidisciplinary team, patients, and relatives.
6. Work within professional codes of conduct.
7. Ensure that patients' perioperative needs are continually assessed and appropriate care delivered and documented.
8. Supervise the work of junior staff ensuring quality and confidentiality is maintained.
9. Manage own workload and support others to do this.
10. Undertake training, if required, to achieve competencies during their preceptorship period and support the teaching and development of all staff.
11. Be responsible for developing and sustaining own knowledge, clinical skills, and professional awareness in accordance with NMC or HPC requirements.
12. Participate in the training and development of Health Care Assistants and Operating Department Practitioners.

Tyneside Surgical Services (TSS) is an independent provider of NHS care located in the North East of England. Our team dedicates itself to providing knowledgeable and integrated surgical services to patients. We carry out a number of elective surgical procedures across eight different specialties.
Established in 2007, the company has continued to grow and has now developed a day-case facility within Team Valley in Gateshead. The new facility comprises of theatre, a day-case unit, endoscopy, outpatient clinic facilities, as well as having on-site MRI and ultrasound scanning.
Job responsibilities
1. A Registered Practitioner who will form a key part of the perioperative team by providing skills in Theatre Scrub and support.
2. Work collaboratively with clinicians and service managers to provide the best possible care to patients.
3. An ability to apply theory to practice to provide a high standard of perioperative care to all patients, ensuring policies and procedures are adhered to.
4. The post holder displays excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
5. The post holder may be involved in ensuring the seamless transfer of patients to an acute trust should such a situation arise.
Person Specification
Experience
* Post registration experience, including experience of working in the clinical specialty.
* Experience of participating in clinical audit.
Qualifications
* RGN/ODP.
* Post registration qualification/training in area of clinical specialty.
* Diploma/Degree in Nursing or equivalent experience.
* Teaching and assessing qualification (or working towards) e.g. ENB 6590 (998) or equivalent/SLIP.
