The International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) is a defence and security think tank that has a deep understanding of regional geopolitics and geo-economics in a global context. Its international researchers provide best-in-class independent and impartial analysis and provide insights on strategic challenges and priorities to governments and the private sector. It is expert at bringing together national leaders and senior policymakers in foreign policy, defence and security; promoting dialogue; and facilitating effective and influential bilateral and multilateral consultations.
The Institute is seeking to appoint an Associate Editor to contribute to the work of the Editorial Services team. This role reports to the Editorial Services Manager.
Responsibilities
* Support and develop (including training) a sub-team.
* Project manage IISS publications (both own and oversight for sub team’s): dossiers, reports, and research papers for print and digital formats.
* Draft and achieve stakeholder buy-in for publication schedules.
* Manage schedules from receipt of approved files to publication in conjunction with the Editorial Services Manager.
* Take a lead role in copy-editing, proofreading, infographics coordination, and quality control.
* Act as key liaison between authors, Design, Communications and IT teams.
* Edit marketing materials for IISS publications as necessary.
* Engage in broader strategic initiatives as may from time to time be requested by the Head of Editorial Services.
* Participate as necessary in product development and sales and marketing discussions for IISS publications.
Requirements
The successful candidate will have:
* Proven experience in copy-editing and proofreading print and digital content.
* Demonstrable experience of managing schedules and working to tight deadlines.
* Demonstrable experience of working on integrated publications with text, maps and infographics.
* An interest in data visualisation in both print and digital formats.
* Experience promoting publications through print and digital channels.
* Experience of people-management.
* An interest in the commercial aspects of publishing.
* Experience of working as part of a multifunctional, international team.
