Title: Civil Technician

About the role:
We are looking for a Civil Technician to join a growing design consultancy and provide ongoing technical design support to a range of clients in the UK with ongoing work available and excellent development opportunities for the right individual.
As a Civil Technician you will be working on a range of residential, commercial and education projects and should be able to demonstrate experience in completing design on projects in these sectors. The team undertakes site appraisals, feasibility assessments, highways design - for both local authority and private residential / commercial projects - and vehicle swept path assessments. You will also be involved in walking, cycling and public transport audits and design, and the servicing / delivery design and management of a range of flood risk assessments and flood compensation assessments.
Within the role as a Civil Technician it will be essential for the chosen individual to complete drawings in line with the engineer’s instructions, and your input and contribution to the team are viewed as essential in the continued development of the business. Drainage design and modelling, levels and external works design, utility assessment and impact negotiation and SuDS maintenance plans will also form part of the role. Candidates with experience in levels and external works design, earthworks modelling and road restraint risk assessment procedures will also be at an advantage.
This role will involve work on a mix highways, drainage and infrastructure design work, and will entail providing technical support to an internal Civil Engineering team. Detailed design and a solid background in highway construction projects and drainage design is essential, and you will be tasked with preparing, reviewing and issuing design drawings to clients. Effective liaison with clients and other members of the team, as well as local authorities and contractors will be required.
The Civil and Transport team in the business are also involved in traffic calming and home zone scheme design, traffic regulation orders, stopping up orders and road safety auditing (stages 1 to 4). CDM risk and mitigation assessments, Ordinary Watercourse Consent applications and Construction Environmental Management Plans (CEMP) also fall under the remit of this team and the chosen candidate will have exposure to the wide range or project work that the company is involved with.
About you:
Candidates should have a minimum of 2 years experience working for UK based design consultancies, and a background working on similar projects is desired in order to ensure a close match to the existing and upcoming workload.
In addition to having a confident, commercial and professional outlook you should have:
- BTEC (or equivalent) in Engineering
- Minimum of 2 years UK based experience
- Strong analytical, communication and technical design skills
- Excellent communication skills in both written and spoken English
- Technical computing ability to produce horizontal and vertical highways design
- Experience with Section 38, 278, 106 and 104 agreements
- Familiarity with SuDS Manual and Sewers for Adoption standards
- Knowledge of procedures relating to TROs and Road Safety Audits
