Entity: Production & Operations Job Family Group: Engineering Group Job Description: The role of Offshore Structural Engineering Advisor (OSE) in bp P&O Solutions leads the Fixed Offshore Structures Engineering Community of Practice and oversees the technical performance of bp's Offshore Structural Engineering - both existing structures in Operations and the design of new structures in Projects. As a recognised or developing industry expert, they will represent bp externally with relevant industry bodies and interface with our major contractors and suppliers to promote application of bp practice in OSE and capture lessons from the wider industry. Accountabilities; People: Lead the OSE CoP and promote active participation of all bp OSE engineers. Advise the Chief Engineer on OSE discipline health, capability and succession planning. Assess the competence of all bp OSE engineers in projects and operations and coach individual development plans. Develop & maintain interfaces with bp leaders with OSE scope, inc. S&ORA Engineering Authority, VP Engineering & Quality, VP Global Conceptual Development, and regional VPs of Operations. Develop and deliver appropriate training offers for all bp OSE engineers. Assist hiring managers by leading technical interviews in OSE engineer recruitment. Process: Verify OSE risk and risk management in bp OSE projects and operations. Lead the development and maintenance of bp OSE engineering technical practices (ETPs) as exceptions to ISO and API standards. Lead bp participation in the development of ISO and API industry standards for OSE and influence the incorporation of bp practice as appropriate. Lead the effective integration and application of OSE practice in bp projects and operations. Advise bp OSE engineers on interpretation and application of relevant OSE regulations, external codes and standards and bp OSE ETPs. Provide technical evaluation of requests for deviations to bp OSE ETPs. Lead the validation of OSE lessons learned, codify lessons and methods in the relevant bp ETPs, and deploy lessons through bp projects, operations and bp OSE CoP. Develop and deploy structural design and assessment methods, both rapid / approximate methods to increase efficiency and/ or detailed & rigorous methods for risk verification, for use by bp OSE engineers. Provide expert OSE advice to projects & operations through attendance at engineering design and peer reviews. Provide expert OSE input to bp investigations, assure OSE content, and ensure execution of associated corrective and preventative actions. Performance: Develop and codify key KPIs to improve bp OSE performance. Requirements; Essential: Minimum bachelor's degree in civil or Structural Engineering. Professional accreditation with a relevant professional body for Civil or Structural engineering. Expert knowledge of onshore and OSE in the oil and gas or process industries covering design, construction, operation, integrity management and decommissioning. Working knowledge of relevant industry OSE standards: ISO, API, DNV etc. Working knowledge of analytical tools utilized in OSE design and analysis. Demonstrated leadership and communications skills and ability to work at all organizational levels. Excellent problem-solving capability. Ability to lead diverse global teams. Ability to chair engineering design reviews. Business acumen with ability to break down barriers to create customer value Desirable: Master’s degree or PhD specialiaing in Offshore Structural Engineering. Experience with engineering quality and continuous improvement processes. Experience in developing and leading community of practices in a large global company. Working knowledge of HAZOP, PHSSER’s, Integrity Management and Risk Assessment.
