About the Role
As an Electrical Design Engineer, you will play a central role in designing, testing, and commissioning electrical and control systems across various types of power plants. This includes work on everything from standby generators to extensive Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) installations. Your primary responsibilities will involve:
1. Electrical and Protection System Design: Develop customized electrical, protection, and control systems tailored to meet the demands of different power facilities.
2. Specifications and Requirements: Draft precise specifications for electrical components and assemblies, including switchboards, transformers, generators, motors, and instrumentation.
3. Industrial Network Design: Design LV and MV networks, including creating single-line diagrams, determining cable sizing and routing, and ensuring protection coordination.
4. Electrical Protection System Implementation: Design, test, and support protection systems for various applications within the power network.
5. Earthing and Layout Design: Create comprehensive earthing designs and general plant layout drawings.
6. Coordinated Drawings: Prepare detailed, coordinated drawings that cover all aspects of the installation, ensuring seamless integration of mechanical, electrical, and structural elements.
7. Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Work closely with mechanical and process teams to develop P&IDs for gas, fuel oil, lube oil, steam, water, compressed air, and related systems.
8. Panel Design & Wiring: Design control and protection panels, including detailed wiring schematics for seamless integration into the system.
9. Field Commissioning: Engage in on-site commissioning of control and protection systems, conducting I/O and instrumentation testing, and performing complete testing and commissioning.
Required Skills & Qualifications
To thrive in this role, you should possess the following qualifications and skills:
1. Educational Background: A Level 8 Degree in Electrical Engineering or a similar qualification is essential.
2. Professional Experience: A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in electrical design within the power or utilities sector.
3. Technical Proficiency: Hands-on experience with CAD software for electrical schematics, such as AutoCAD, EPlan, or comparable programs.
4. 3D Design Knowledge: Familiarity with BIM and 3D drawing software, such as Revit MEP or Plant 3D, is a plus.
5. Industrial MV Substation Experience: Strong experience in designing and commissioning MV substations and distribution networks.
6. Network Design and Analysis Skills: Proficiency in network modeling, protection coordination, and short-circuit calculations.
7. Attention to Detail: Strong attention to detail and precision in creating technical specifications and coordinated drawings.
8. Collaborative Mindset: Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment, ensuring close alignment with mechanical, process, and structural teams.
