Locum Consultant in Anaesthetics - Intensive Care Medicine
We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, motivated Locum Consultant Anaesthetist with an interest in Intensive Care Medicine to join our forward looking team in delivering high quality anaesthesia, analgesia and resuscitation to the population of Carmarthenshire.
The post comes during a period of Health Board wide service reviews including a comprehensive reconfiguration of services in West Wales. The aim is to provide a spectrum of flexible and responsive services for Anaesthesia and Critical Care across the Health Board encompassing:
1. Development of a comprehensive Anaesthetics and Critical Care Service within Carmarthenshire based at Glangwili General Hospital but with sessions in Prince Philip Hospital in Llanelli.
2. Development and delivery of a comprehensive 7 day service.
3. Acute inpatient assessment and treatment.
4. Effective leadership to multidisciplinary staff members of the unit.
5. Development of teaching, training and research within the Organisation.
Main duties of the job
Duties primarily involve providing intensive care cover on a 1 in 10 basis for the population of Carmarthenshire from the intensive care unit in Glangwili General Hospital. The unit provides cover for Glangwili General Hospital in Carmarthen and Prince Phillip Hospital in Llanelli. Patients referred to critical care from Prince Phillip Hospital are assessed by the resident anaesthetist and if accepted for critical care are transferred to Glangwili General Hospital.
Current job plans accommodate those with sessions in Anaesthesia as well as those with pure intensive care commitment.
The department is open to accommodate single CCT applicants or any area of specialist interest/dual CCT, including Pre-hospital Emergency Medicine or Retrieval Medicine. We have a track record of supporting consultants in providing sessions to EMRTS and are keen to pursue similar arrangements with ACCTS.
