Job Description
Ayrton Group are seeking a Health and Safety Officer (HSO) to join our client, a manufacturer of Wind Turbines, on a construction project in the Kingston upon Hull region.
The HSO controls and monitors the construction site on behalf of the GPM with regard to occupational health, safety and environment management. Within these responsibilities, they secure compliance with all regulatory HSE requirements for the construction site, such as the HSE plan, client Construction Site Regulations, and additionally, the project specific HSE requirements.
This is a short term requirement of 2 months with the potential for extension, commencing in August 2025.
Key Responsibilities:
* First Level Support for all HSE related matter as they happen on site.
* Identifies risks or opportunities and reports to the GPM in the area of responsibility during the project.
* Takes the necessary measures in cooperation with the CM to achieve the highest possible safety standard and maximum health protection of staff and any third parties on the project site.
* Supports the identification and implementation of mitigation measures and communicates the status of the risk mitigation measures.
* Technical documentation review in line with specific project activity and safe system of work relating to that activity.
* Manages, updates, and amends the HSE Plan, CPP, or ERP if required during the projects timeline.
* Organises project meetings on safety and environmental issues.
* Attends relevant construction site meetings (Toolbox Meetings, Daily Construction Meetings, etc.) and, if required customers meetings.
* Daily exchanges with teams on the construction site to increase and motivate behaviour based safety.
* Daily communication with and regular reports to the GPM and CM concerning HSE deviations and hazards.
* Daily exchanges with the site project team members (e.g., CM, SVIW, QIIW) following up site observations.
* In the event of serious HSE deviations, report immediately to the GPM, CM, HSE Manager.
* Conducts Workplace Inspections and Site Walks.
* Instructs workmen or subcontractors on how to comply with fire protection regulations, emergency equipment, use of personal protection equipment and environmental procedures, such as waste management and hazardous materials.
* Ensures that all site staff have been registered and an active updated register is maintained throughout the project.
* Ensures that all workers involved in working at height have a current G41 (or other equivalent current medical certificate).
* Provides and initiates safety inductions and training for all staff.
* Attends daily construction meetings in order to receive information of impending site works and offer advice on the safety aspects of those works whenever needed.
* Organises and gives support to the presenters of the Toolbox Meetings.
* Support the GPM and CM with subcontractor communication prior to arrival on site regarding the HSE plan and other necessary safety documents to enable subcontractors to carry out their activities under safe conditions.
* Reviews the risk assessment and safety documents for the activities prepared by subcontractors prior to activity beginning.
* Confirms that all subcontractors nominate a member of staff as a point of contact for site health and safety issues.
* Informs and assists the GPM to prepare all the necessary HSE communications to Local Authorities if required.
* Creates an emergency plan, updates whenever required, and manages communication lines to subcontractors and the relevant site staff.
* Organises regular training and drills for staff in case of emergency.
* In case of an incident, informs the GPM, and PLM HSE and conducts site and scene preservation until an investigation is conduced.
Key Requirements:
* NEBOSH Diploma, National General Certificate, or NEBOSH National Certificate in Construction Health and Safety or NVQ Level 5 OS&H.
* Minimum of 2 year’s experience in on-site safety roles.
* Previous experience working on wind farm projects is preferred.
* CSCS or equivalent is required.
* Global Wind Organisation Work at Heights certification.
* Global Wind Organisation First Aid certification.
* RenewableUK Medical certification.
* Thorough knowledge of current safety legislation & regulations for England.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and report writing.
* Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
* Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
* Fluency in English is required.
