Main Purpose of Role
As a Site Operating Technician for the Embedded assets fleet of OCGT’s and Gas Engines, you will contribute towards delivering on the day to day Operational and Maintenance requirements of the Hythe and remote sites. To maximize the safe, reliable and commercial performance of the assets you will be responsible for operating the Hythe plant and remote sites from the Hythe control room, and carrying out plant operational routines in line with our procedures locally on the Hythe site and when required on the remote sites, this will include fault diagnosis and breakdown recovery.
You will be expected to perform operational duties on a full shift cycle working hour basis including ‘call out’ outside of these hours. On occasions you’ll be required to support the EA portfolio, this will require some travel around the UK. You will collaborate with Engineering & Outage teams, supporting plant shutdowns and recommissioning as required.
You’ll manage contractors delivering routine and non-routine work packages, so Contract Manager or Contract Engineer accreditation is desirable.

Key Accountabilities
1. Operating and maintaining portfolio plant to ensure compliance with appropriate safety and environmental standards, and statutory requirements.
2. Carrying out plant-related routine duties to ensure plant commercial performance, availability and reliability is maintained to a high level.
3. Application of safe systems of work, such as Putting People to Work, Authorisation to Work (or similar) and taking on nominated roles within the RWE safety rules up to Safety Controller level .
4. Plant and control system first line fault diagnosis and reporting.
5. Application of operational, maintenance and safety systems and documentation for the plant, incorporating relevant RWE Generation standards.
6. Planning, organising and supervising maintenance activities, including the supervision of contractors.
7. Assisting Location Manager[s] and other colleagues on projects and outage preparation.
8. General maintenance of plant dependent on the individual’s competence and training (this may involve on the job training).
9. Responsibility for producing and maintaining identified site documentation and procedures.
10. Liaising with internal and external customers.
11. Taking advantage of commercial opportunities through flexible plant operation.
12. Provide flexible support to delivery of projects and operational workloads as appropriate at assets within the Embedded Assets portfolio.
13. Assist Location Manager to achieve compliance with statutory requirements (health, safety and environmental) by undertaking nominated roles.
Knowledge & Skills
14. Competent in all aspects of generating plant operation as required by the role.
15. Appreciation of the commercial aspects of the power generation business.
16. Knowledge and experience of power and/or process plant operation or maintenance.
17. Good teamwork and interpersonal skills, demonstrates critical behaviours.
18. A high standard of numeracy, written communication skills and IT literacy.
19. A flexible approach to work patterns, dependent upon seasonal operating requirements; this will require a degree of flexibility over normal working hours particularly during winter operating regimes.
20. Flexible and geographically agile whilst customer and service focused.
Desirable Criteria
21. Operations or Engineering qualification, or study towards an engineering qualification.
22. NEBOSH certificate in Health and Safety or IOSH Managing Safely qualification.
23. Working knowledge of health, safety and environmental legal requirements.
24. Knowledge of power station operations and maintenance and codes of practice, technical procedures etc.
25. Competency in the operation and maintenance of HV apparatus, including basic fault-finding.

The individual should be able to think logically and respond quickly and confidently to problems with a minimum of supervision. The Site Operating Technician will be a self-motivated, flexible individual, able to work alone, use initiative and be willing to accept responsibility to deliver Company requirements.
A flexible, positive and pro-active attitude will be required to ensure that Embedded Assets Operations are as successful as possible.
