Quality Manager, Close to Halifax, West Yorkshire, £50k - £60k (DOE) The Opportunity: My Client, a well established, (decades old) family owned, fast paced, manufacturing business, the UK's leading independently owned business in its niche, T/O £60m, is looking for a dynamic, proactive and experienced Quality Manager. This business is successful and profitable (can be evidenced via Companies House). There is low staff turnover and a fantastic culture of loyalty. Many staff members have been working there for many years. However, there is a belief that improvements can be achieved with the introduction of the right Quality Manager, who is an experienced Lean practitioner, highly effective at driving behaviour change throughout the business, able to explain the reasons for change, where necessary, in a tactful, diplomatic way and can be the public face of the business handling issues/complaints with Customers. Reporting to the Operations Director, managing a team of 2 (1 administrator and 1 quality coordinator), this a hands on role, where you are able to have huge influence over the business operations and ultimately its effectiveness. The role will suit somebody who can manage, interact with and influence not just their own direct reports but everybody across each business area, to instill a dedicated culture of quality throughout. Job Summary: The Quality Manager is responsible for overseeing and implementing quality assurance systems to ensure that products meet internal standards, customer expectations, and industry regulations. This role requires a proactive leader who can assess gaps in quality performance, develop improvement strategies, and drive a culture of continuous improvement throughout the company. As a key leadership team member, the Quality Manager will also ensure compliance with Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) regulations while fostering a safe working environment. Key Responsibilities: Quality Compliance Maintain and update quality documentation, procedures, and policies in line with industry regulations. Develop, implement, and manage the company’s Quality Management System (QMS). Ensure compliance with ISO and other relevant quality standards. Conduct internal and external audits to assess compliance and drive improvements. Quality Assurance & Control Oversee quality control processes, including in-process inspections and final product testing. Lead investigations into quality issues, implement corrective and preventive actions. Drive a zero-defect mindset by establishing and maintaining preventive quality measures. Support the introduction of new products and processes to enhance quality performance. Customer Complaint Management Take ownership of the customer complaint process, ensuring effective and timely resolutions. Maintain strong relationships with customers to meet quality expectations and improve satisfaction. Leadership & Team Development Lead and develop the Quality team to foster accountability and continuous improvement. Provide coaching and training on quality standards and best practices across departments. Continuous Improvement & Data-Driven Decision Making Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and analyse trends to identify improvement areas. Drive initiatives to reduce waste, enhance efficiency, and improve product quality. Work cross-functionally to ensure alignment between quality objectives and business goals. Communication & Reporting Provide regular updates on quality performance, non-conformances, and corrective actions. Maintain transparency in reporting quality metrics and improvement progress. Qualifications & Skills: Experience: Minimum of 5 years in a quality management role within a manufacturing (preferably FMCG or Packaging) environment in a UK business. Industry Knowledge: Proven experience in quality control, quality assurance, and compliance ((preferably in a FMCG or Packaging manufacturing environment) Technical Expertise: Strong understanding of quality control tools, methodologies (e.g., Six Sigma, Lean), and industry best practices. Leadership Abilities: Strong communication, influencing, and team development skills. Problem-Solving Skills: Expertise in root cause analysis (RCA) and Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA). Organisational Skills: Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively. Analytical Mindset: Experience with data analysis, performance metrics, and trend identification.
