We are looking for an experienced Engineering Manager to join a program at one of our clients who is a leader in Data Science within the Retail industry. As an Engineering Manager (Director level) at Parser, you will ensure exceptional technical delivery and will become the client's trusted technical advisor, driving account growth. The role would require you to be present at the client’s premises in London between 2 to 3 times a week. Key Responsibilities: Lead technical aspects of the program, including architecture, design, and achieving best-in-class service. Be the liaison between Parser and the client, increasing Parser's influence, ensuring satisfaction, and understanding their needs. Lead and manage technical teams to maximize performance, attract talent, and ensure successful project handovers. Demonstrate technical expertise by staying current with industry trends, representing Parser as a technical expert, and contributing to intellectual property growth. Establish the basis to measure team throughputs and act as a mentor to help drive continuous improvements across multiple development teams. Drive account growth technically, identifying new opportunities and proposing solutions. Additional Responsibilities: Oversee technical governance (reports, goals, standards, etc.) and client onboarding /offboarding processes. Manage team selection, performance, and career development. Collaborate with engineering teams on the design and launch of new features. Champion best software development practices within your teams, fostering continuous improvement. Stay current with market trends and lead cross-company technical initiatives. Contribute to technical aspects and estimations of pre-sales proposals and presentations, supporting sales efforts. Serve as the primary escalation point for technical and performance issues, ensuring prompt resolution for clients and your team. On Client Management & Growth: Drive communication with key stakeholders and foster strong relationships. Understand the competitive landscape and develop strategies to increase Parser's competitiveness with the client. Become the client's trusted technical advisor, providing insightful guidance and building trust. Increase Parser's technical influence within the client’s organization. Drive account growth through technical expertise and new opportunity identification, proactively proposing new technology service offerings to enhance client success. Lead initiatives to improve client technical processes and practices, increasing efficiency and value. On Team Management & Development: Provide technical leadership and direction for the engineering teams in your charge. Motivate and mentor technical talent, fostering a collaborative and growth-oriented work environment. Minimize the team’s attrition Select, interview, and onboard new team members to the client’s projects. Lead successful customer technical interviews and participate in shadowing activities. Ensure a rapid and efficient ramp-up and proper handovers. Manage performance, set goals, provide feedback, and ensuring team success. Demonstrate adaptability, functioning as team leader or as an individual contributor when necessary to spearhead client opportunities. What you'll bring to us: Technical Expertise: 15 Years of Proven Software Development Experience : Demonstrate a strong foundation in software development principles and best practices. 8 Years of Leadership Experience with Engineering Teams : Possess a proven track record of effectively leading and motivating technical teams. 2 years of Engineering Director or Engineering Manager (with tech focus) working experience is highly desired. Expertise in Diverse Technology Stacks: Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of various technologies relevant to modern software development. Deep Knowledge in Core Programming Languages : Be highly skilled in at least two of the following core programming languages: React, Java, C#, Node.js, .NET). Modern Architecture Design and Implementation: Possess experience in designing and implementing scalable and maintainable architectures (microservices, event-driven, cloud-based). Data Expertise : knowledge of Data Analytics, Machine Learning, and AI would be a valuable asset. Database Proficiency: Demonstrate strong understanding of both relational (SQL) and non-relational (NoSQL) databases. Cloud Platform Familiarity (AWS/GCP/Azure) : Be comfortable working with at least one major cloud platform for deployment and scalability. Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) Expertise: Solid Understanding of SDLC: Demonstrate a strong grasp of software development best practices, including design, documentation, and architecture. Testing and CI/CD Expertise: Possess experience with unit, integration, and acceptance testing methodologies, as well as continuous integration and continuous delivery pipelines Leadership and Management: Proven Technical Management Skills : Demonstrate a history of effectively managing technical projects, budgets, releases, risks, and client relationships. Technical Team Leadership: Possess experience in leading and mentoring technical teams, conducting performance evaluations, and fostering career development. Leadership Focus: Show a strong desire to develop a career as a leader and guide others towards success. Business Acumen and Communication: Pre-sales and technical sales (plus): Ability to contribute to pre-sales processes and identify technical sales opportunities. Client account growth (plus): Experience growing client accounts through farming and proactive technical proposals. Communication and mentorship: Strong communication skills and ability to provide impactful feedback and mentorship to team members. Additional Considerations: Location: Be based in the UK, preferably London or Greater London. Language Skills: Fluency in English is essential. Spanish language proficiency is a plus. Travel: willingness to work from client offices and travel to other Parser’s locations.
