PMUK's Home Appliance Division is looking for an experienced Senior Laboratory Engineer to join the R&D Mechanical team. The successful candidate will have technical responsibility to ensure all testing and evaluation is completed to schedule, adhering to both internal and external standards. The position requires comprehensive technical knowledge to aid in the resolution of issues and the completion of technical assignments. Mentoring and supporting other members of the laboratory with technical aspects of their work is a key part of the role, as well as providing support to the project engineers and team leader as required. It is the responsibility of the Senior Laboratory Engineer to create, advise on, and check test specifications, test control plans and other technical documents in support of product development. Supporting and advising the team leader, the Senior Laboratory Engineer is responsible for the organisation, maintenance, and development of the laboratory and to ensure all required work can be completed efficiently to the required standard.
WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING
* Liaising with both internal and external stakeholders to manage test requirements efficiently, developing and maintaining the test plans and schedules, and coordinating the completion of the evaluation in line with agreed schedules.
* Consider and propose new technology and system improvements to improve evaluation procedures / processes, ensuring efficient product evaluation and future improvement to product evaluation. Manage maintenance and improvement activities within the mechanical laboratory environment and associated areas.
* Conduct detailed root cause investigations based on engineering analysis, providing logical and justifiable analysis and countermeasure proposals.
* Support the project and team leader to ensure relevant project based AQ and R&D documents are completed in line with the required processes, including the checking and signing of test results.
* Support the project and team leader in the creation, checking, and issuing of evaluation documentation.
* Mentor and support lab engineers with the technical aspects of their work and personal development.
* Responsible for H&S compliance in the laboratory area and 5S is maintained to high level.
* Support the team leader / department manager in the creation and maintenance of annual laboratory budget and capital expenditure.
* Coordinate with the team leader with the planning of work and allocation of tasks to lab technicians / engineers.
* Maintenance of the laboratory calibration system, including organising required calibrations / repairs, obtaining quotations, liaising with the calibration labs, maintaining records, trend analysis, and ensuring that the calibration budget is kept in control.
* Ensure that testing procedures including evaluation limits are performed correctly to internal, customer national and international quality and safety regulations and standards.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
* Degree level qualification in an engineering or business-based discipline plus relevant industry experience.
* Experience within a design laboratory environment.
* Highly experienced in engineering evaluation, design and development processes.
* Highly experienced in product and component evaluation.
* Proven track record of engineering accomplishments.
* Comprehensive knowledge of testing variables.
* Good understanding and can apply basic measurement of uncertainty.
* The ability to write detailed reports, evaluate products / components, and interpret test results.
* Has extensive knowledge of test equipment and combinations of equipment.
* Can design and build a test apparatus / test bed for ad hoc tests.
* High problem-solving skills with the ability to efficiently resolve technical issues.
* Analytical and logical approach to working.
* Ability and experience in managing project plans and knowledge of project management process.
* Experience in using British Standards online service.
* Good level of craft skills i.e., Woodworking, metalworking and plastic.
* Experience using MS Office applications i.e., Word, Excel, Outlook and SharePoint.
* An understanding of BS17025. Working towards compliance.
* Has the ability to work on their own initiative.
* Ability to lead and manage teams.
* High level of understanding manufacturing processes (Six Sigma desirable).
* 3D CAD skills preferably CATIA V5 and ENOVIA (desirable).
* Good knowledge of material selection (desirable).
* Knowledge of internal and external tests standards (desirable).
