The Assistant Accountant will be instrumental in supporting the GL Finance team as they deliver under the Sarbanes Oxley regulations (SOx). The role will also provide support to the wider Finance, Treasury and tax teams, on an ad-hoc basis. The Assistant Accountant will also provide support for the Cash Management function, such as maintaining the integrity of Supplier banking records having been through robust validation process and ensuring all monthly banking transactions are processed to allow complete reconciliation of bank accounts as part of month end process. The post holder is also responsible for raising payments outside of the Account Payable Procure to Pay process to ensure urgent compliance payments to tax authorities are made timely, in addition to supporting the Reward team to ensure employee payments outside of the monthly payroll are also processed timely to mitigate delays in meeting contractual employee remuneration obligations.This position reports to the Head of US and EMEA Finance Control and is part of Core Finance team located in Cambridge and will be on-site. At Abcam, our vision is to be the most influential life sciences company for researchers worldwide.In this role, you will have the opportunity to: - Support the GL Finance team as they deliver under the Sarbanes Oxley regulations (SOx). - The post holder will have input into other areas of the accounting team activities such as Balance Sheet reconciliations, Fixed Asset creation and maintenance of robust & accurate Fixed Asset Register, month end journal creation / processing via regular interaction with colleagues in FPA, accounting and tax teams to ensure that general ledger balance integrity as well as fulfilling Indirect Tax return obligations by assisting on ad-hoc basis with the VAT returns for UK and Netherlands (NL) entities and EC Sales and Intrastat returns for NL. - The role will also provide support to the wider Finance, Treasury and tax teams, on an ad-hoc basis. - Support preparation of statutory Office for National Statistics returns. - Responsible for auditor interaction where appropriate - Ad hoc financial projects as required The essential requirements of the job include: - Qualified or partially qualified accountant ACA / ACCA / CIMA required - Knowledge of accounting best practices. - Diligent, inquisitive with sound analytical skills, but maintaining attention to detail - Strong written and verbal communication skills. - Time management skills, demonstrating thoroughness and reliability.
