An academic school in the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences is seeking second responders to be on call for a day a week or equivalent (7 hours per week in total) during the Spring semester to support a student who experiences seizures.
Postholders will need to be present on the Cathays Park campus during working hours, mostly 9a.m. to 5p.m. (1p.m. to 9p.m. on Mondays) with a one-hour break. Shifts (which can, if needed, be divided into morning and afternoon) will be assigned based on the postholders’ availability and on that of the other second responders, who will cover the remaining two days of the week on which the student attends.
The successful candidates will already have passed Level 2 First Aid training or equivalent (Emergency First Aid at Work and First Aid at Work are acceptable qualifications). Any actions required of the postholder will not go beyond Level 2 First Aid expectations. The successful postholder will attend further training based on the student’s own Seizure Management Plan.
You will always act as a second responder, alongside the Building Support Assistant (who will be first responder and will be first aid trained). You will be required to make the student, who requires support, feel safe, observe the duration of seizures and act in accordance with their Seizure Management Plan. You may occasionally be required to assist the first responder within the remit of your first aid training.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Postholders must remain on call, always readily and rapidly contactable by phone. When called to assist the student, the postholder will be acting as second responder to support the first responder based in the school. Postholders will be free to use the time when not attending the student for reading or study.

The deadline for this post is Friday 24 January. Training will be scheduled in consultation with the successful candidates before the anticipated start date in early February.
