You will be primarily responsible and accountable for the completion of updating Southern Water’s internal systems and tracking of works, training records, hazards and store audits, attending compliance meetings with other departments, inputting pollution reports to ensure our asset maintenance standards are maintained effectively.
You will manage the team in the absence of the Field Performance Managers, deputising for leave and delegated requirements, meeting performance continuity for an operational area and role succession. Working closely within our internal teams, you will liaise with our technical planning and scheduling team and use your expertise to plan in complex works safely and resolve long-standing and reactive issues, planning activities to deliver repairs, inspections, and maintenance on treatment works and the networks.
As a developing leader, you will work with the team to support high standards of employee engagement and consultation with internal stakeholders. Proactively monitoring and escalating performance shortfalls and implementing strategic improvement initiatives through advice and coaching is essential for this role.
To give you our background, we provide wastewater services to 4.6 million customers. Our 39,900km of sewers and 3,476 pumping stations collect wastewater from our customers. Each day 1,371 million litres of wastewater are received at our 367 treatment works.
Therefore, you will demonstrate a strong technical and operational background, a focus on Health and Safety risk and Environmental impact, together with a collaborative approach and clear drive for continuous improvement by undertaking site audits to ensure compliance with asset maintenance expectations, asset/plant standards, site cleanliness, and performance.
Your responsibilities also include:
1. Keeping an overview of performance against ISO14001 and ISO9001 standards within an operational area to ensure compliance
2. Assessing and Evaluating Risks to Health, Safety, Security, Wellbeing, and Environmental Management conditions within an operational area
3. Completing statutory Health, Safety and Environmental audits, (including SSI, EMS)
4. Management and ownership of completion of all identified Hazards within an operational area, and administration of Hazard Database
5. Responsible for mitigating and progressing to solution HSSW Hazards identified
6. Ensuring specific issues identified by the team are reported to the FPM at required priority as per escalation guidelines
7. Assisting the team to meet performance targets through coaching and mentoring
8. Supporting as required where performance improvement needs within the team are identified
9. Building relationships across Southern Water to ensure that business units work in partnership to deliver the company’s strategic goals
A curious individual with a passion to develop into team management, you will have a good understanding of electrical and mechanical trades within a regulated environment such as Regulatory and Legal Environmental policy, waste management licensing, and the Health & Safety at Work act.
It will be highly desirable for you to have a background working within Wastewater treatment; however, we welcome applicants who have a strong operational background, with a clear track record of delivering to health, safety, and environmental targets.
