General Description:
The Industrial Controls Electrician will adopt the culture, standards, and values as outlined by Kennebec Lumber Company’s (KLC) Management team, specifically the Sawmill Manager. The Industrial Controls Electrician position is responsible for operating, maintaining, repairing, and upgrading all electronic controls, PLC, sensors, and components; as well as maintaining and repairing electrical systems and equipment such as motors, switch gear, wiring, cables, and lighting fixtures. Other responsibilities include sustaining relevant knowledge and licensure, maintaining professionalism, motivating team members, and monitoring production to ensure quality, safety, and productivity are meeting or exceeding company standards.
Responsibilities:
* Perform programmable logic control (PLC) troubleshooting, maintenance, and programming.
* Maintain a comprehensive knowledge of procedural manuals, blueprints, and diagrams including mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic.
* Safely and effectively troubleshoot and repair electrical breakdowns.
* Interpret and improve automated system’s performance parameters, at macro/micro level.
* Installation of Electrical, Mechanical, and Electronic devices.
* Termination of wiring and associated components.
* Repair/replace controls and sensors.
* Use of power/hand tools to drill, crimp, solder, etc.
* Perform scheduled and assigned work including PM inspections, repairs, monitoring routes, troubleshooting, replacement, and programming of electrical equipment and controls.
* Some mechanical work as required.
* Identify risks and safely Lockout, Tag-out.
* Troubleshoot up to 480 Volt equipment, including wiring 3 Phase motors and VFDs.
* Install and set up VFDs, troubleshoot controls programming, and calibrate/tune instrumentation devices.
* Work as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
* Travel as needed to other plant sites, which may include staying overnight and possibly weekends.
* All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications / Requirements:
* Industrial electrical experience up to 480 volts, electrical controls, instrumentation, and PLCs.
* Practical experience with Variable Frequency Drives (VFD), DC Drives, Servo Controls, Pneumatics, Ethernet I/O, and Power Distribution Systems.
* Electrical experience preferably in a production or pre-fabrication environment.
* Ability to perform various electrical and mechanical tasks according to blueprints, schematics, and/or technical drawings.
* Strong mechanical background in a production setting troubleshooting and repairing gearboxes, conveyors, sprocket/chains, belts, clutches, and brakes.
* Electrical Controls: 4 years.
* Commercial/Industrial Electrical: 5 years.
* Electrical/Mechanical Fabrication: 2 years.
* You have a high school diploma or a GED.
* Effective written and oral communication skills.
* Able to work well with minimal supervision.
* Ability to prioritize tasks and follow specified procedures.
Physical Requirements:
* Bend, stretch & twist occasionally.
* Moderate wrist/hand repetitions.
* Stand or sit for periods of time.
* Reaching, pushing, pulling.
* Lifting 5 – 25 lbs.
* Walk on uneven ground at times.
* Ability to work in all weather conditions (below 0 temps to over 90º).
Miscellaneous Requirements:
Safety First – PPE:
* Hard hat in designated areas (Exception being – inside saw cabs, crane cabs, outside forklift machine cabs).
* Safety-toed footwear required in all areas.
* Gloves required in designated areas – per task in either mill (Handling Saws – ALWAYS).
* Hearing protection required in all areas (Exception being – inside cab of outside machine forklifts).
* Eye protection required in all areas.
* Face protection, when necessary, per task.
* Fluorescent vests required for all outside activity:
1. All Outside Machine Operators - Fluorescent Green/Yellow.
2. All Outside Pedestrian activity – Fluorescent Orange.
3. Exception being – pedestrian travel from one building to another.
1. Report all near misses and unsafe acts.
2. Pedestrian awareness at all times in the area.
