The Trauma & Orthopaedics department are looking for an efficient, organised and experienced administrator who can help support the day to day running of our busy fracture clinics.
We are looking for an individual who is organised, customer focused, adaptable and able to communicate effectively with patients, clinicians and other admin staff within the department.
The role is varied and so a flexible attitude and approach to work is a must as no two days will be the same. Some of the daily tasks will include prepping medical records, booking patients into clinic, answering telephone enquiries and dealing with colleagues both within T&O and across the wider trust. We need someone who will work well under pressure and approach tasks methodically and logically.
We are looking for someone who will bring a positive attitude and enthusiasm to the role as well as an individual who will have the confidence to work autonomously once trained.
Main duties of the job
The role will be to provide a comprehensive and quality service to Consultants and Specialty Managers in the management of waiting lists and the planning of operating lists. Responsibilities include:
1. Provide a comprehensive knowledge of a wide range of hospital procedures, waiting list policies and software programmes.
2. Manage and organise Consultants waiting lists, identify problems, deal with them using your own initiative and strategically plan own workload.
3. Take an active role in the Patient Agreed Booking Programme and the Electronic Patient Record project.
4. Participate as a team member in the smooth running of the day-to-day operational management of the GI & Breast Surgery Admissions Department.

Job responsibilities
The post holder will manage elective admissions for Consultants and Registrars adhering to defined policies and trust general policies. Responsibilities include:
1. Implement change in their own area relation to the management of waiting lists.
2. Manage the Patient Target Lists (PTL) ensuring patients are dated within their waiting time breach target dates.
3. Monitor and manage the pathway of patients in defined specialities referred to the trust within the relevant time scales.
4. Organise operation dates with patients in strict order of the waiting list, taking into account case mix, instrument availability, age, medication, surgeon, anaesthetist.
5. Manage cancelled operations, ensuring the government policy is strictly adhered to when rebooking patients.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* GCSE C/5 or above in English and Maths (or equivalent).
* Cerner training for electronic booking (on the job training will be given and competencies need to be achieved).
Knowledge and Experience
* Previous work in similar environment.
* Understanding of a range of Trust policies and management procedures.
* Understanding of medical conditions and terminology.
Skills and Capabilities
* Excellent communication skills, courteous and efficient.
* Manage own workload with good time keeping.
* Good time management and ability to prioritise tasks appropriately.
* Works well under pressure.
* Able to manage communication with tact and diplomacy.
