Applications are invited for the post of Locum Consultant in Cardiac Surgery. The successful candidate will join our team of six Cardiac Surgeons based at Castle Hill Hospital. The post is a 6 month fixed term position.
We provide a comprehensive Tertiary Adult Cardiac surgical services to a population of 1.2 million people within the catchment areas of Hull, East Yorkshire, North East Lincolnshire and North Yorkshire.
The on call commitment will be 1:7. The department has close links with Hull University and Hull and York Medical School with ample opportunities for teaching and research.
You should possess full GMC registration, FRCS (CTh) or equivalent and appropriate training and experience to work independently to provide comprehensive Cardiac surgical services.

This post is essential to maintain current levels of service provision in cardiac surgery. The post holder will have equitable working conditions in accordance with the Trust’s Equality, Diversity and Inclusion drive, and provide the necessary on-call requirements for cardiac surgery. The objectives of this post are listed below
• To work with consultant colleagues in the provision of a comprehensive adult cardiac surgery service in the Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust (not transplantation or congenital)
• To deliver service to the population in line with local targets, NHS England national service specifications and commissioning agreements, NICE directives and GiRFT recommendations
• To participate in and progress Clinical Audit & Governance to ensure patient safety, clinical quality, operational effectiveness and service efficiency
• To participate in the adult cardiac surgical on call rota
• To support service plans for the specialty, taking account of the changes in population demographics, operational requirements, clinical practice and new technologies available
To maintain and expand the excellence of teaching and research within the department.
