Oracle DBA - Edinburgh - 6 Month Contract - Outside IR35
Lorien's Public Sector client are currently recruiting for an Oracle DBA to join on a 6 month initial contract, outside IR35.
Responsibilities:
* Serve as the subject matter expert for Oracle database architecture throughout the migration process.
* Ensure Oracle production databases are properly mirrored in AWS while maintaining data integrity and high performance.
* Collaborate with the Cloud Architect to define and implement database replication strategies and configurations in AWS.
* Provide guidance on schema optimisation, indexing strategies, and performance tuning for Oracle databases in the cloud environment.
* Identify and address Oracle-specific issues encountered during the migration and propose actionable solutions.
* Support the design and implementation of database monitoring and optimisation tools in AWS.
* Document best practices, lessons learned, and technical details for Oracle database migration.
Required Skills/Knowledge:
* Experience managing and optimising Oracle databases in production environments.
* Proven expertise in Oracle database architecture, including schema design, indexing, and performance tuning.
* Hands-on experience with database replication and migration to cloud platforms, particularly AWS.
* Strong understanding of AWS services relevant to databases, such as RDS, EC2, and S3.
* Proficiency in Oracle-specific tools and technologies (e.g., RMAN, Data Pump, Oracle RAC).
* Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional team environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
* Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
* AWS Certified Database Specialty or Solutions Architect certification.
* Experience in transitioning from Oracle to alternative cloud-native database solutions.
* Knowledge of cost optimization strategies to minimise Oracle licensing costs in the cloud.
