Job Description As the Lead FPGA Firmware Design Engineer, you will take a leading position in the development of cutting-edge embedded systems firmware for various electronics used in our power converter systems. Here is an example: https://www.gevernova.com/power-conversion/product-solutions/Naval-Electric-Power-Propulsion In this role you will focus on: - Defining requirements and FPGA architectures alongside other hardware and software engineers. - Specifying, designing, implementing, optimizing, and documenting FPGA firmware using industry-standard tools and methodologies. - Developing and debugging firmware for diverse applications like signal processing, data acquisition, and control systems. - Conducting verification and validation testing to ensure your designs meet performance and reliability requirements. - Integrating FPGA designs and modules into larger systems and verifying their functionality. - Collaboration with cross-functional teams. - Applying best engineering standards and developing design practices to ensure FPGA designs comply with relevant health & safety and international standards. We are looking for a committed and professional individual with: - A relevant degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent qualifications, or significant experience in an electrical design engineering environment. - Strong background in FPGA design, Embedded Software design and programming. - Ability to translate high level design requirements into efficient and robust FPGA implementations. - Proficiency in VHDL programming languages. - Solid understanding of digital design concepts, including Register Transfer Level (RTL) coding, synthesis, and timing closure. - Familiarity with FPGA-based development boards and hardware description languages. - Ability to design of interface circuits, both analogue and digital circuits including microprocessor, FPGA and memory circuits. - Experience with circuit simulation design tools. - Meticulous and thorough work ethic with an attention to detail. - Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. What will make you stand out: - Design of SOC (System on Chip) circuits, including some appreciation of configuration and software. - Prior experience with high-speed digital design, DSP algorithms, or embedded systems. - Familiarity with PCB design tools such as Altium, OrCAD, Mentor Graphics, CAD Star, etc. - High speed communications knowledge such as Ethernet, fibre optic and higher speed derivatives thereof. - Knowledge of power electronic converter systems and electrical machines.
