Job summary In this role you will be working within a supportive and educationally focussed environment, you will be providing junior level experience (equivalent to FY2/ST1-2) in a teaching hospital within all the main medical sub-specialities. This post is based at Royal Preston Hospital, and you will be an integral part of our team and will be involved directly with the day-to-day functioning of Medical Assessment Unit (MAU), Emergency department (ED) and Same day emergency care (SDEC). There may be some cross site working as and when required. Main duties of the job You will be required to work closely with GP and Emergency Department colleagues while accepting patients for assessment in SDEC. Our SDEC accepts ED ambulatory patients and GP referrals, who are assessed by ACPs and junior doctors in the unit. These patients are reviewed by senior decision makers and then a final management plan is made. The majority of the patients are discharged with follow up plans as required. Working on the SDEC provides good learning opportunities with one-to-one interactions with consultants and registrars. As a junior clinical fellow, you would be required to support Senior doctors with our ward jobs and help with clerking as required. We are keen to develop our doctors' skills and you would have opportunities to perform invasive procedures like lumbar puncture, ascitic paracentesis (diagnostic and therapeutic) and pleural aspiration. About us Working alongside our consultants in this role you would assess and manage Acute medical common presentations. We are keen to develop our junior doctors, all junior clinical fellows are allocated an educational supervisor who will work with you to ensure you are developing your skills and knowledge within the role, you will support you to maintain logbooks and portfolio. You will have opportunities to get involved in weekly teaching sessions in MAU, as a Junior Clinical Fellow can expect extensive training in every aspect of Acute Medicine and ambulatory care. You will also be responsible for the teaching undergraduate students firm attached to Acute Medicine and foundation doctors working in Acute Medicine. This role would enable you to develop your skills and knowledge in acute medicine, we are keen to involve our fellows in quality improvement and service development and we want to ensure we understand any interests you have to enable you to develop in this role and your career. As a clinical fellow you will have 10 days study leave per year which you can use to attend relevant professional courses to help develop you.
