POST TITLE: RESIDENTIAL SUPPORT WORKER
RESPONSIBLE TO: Registered Manager
REPORTING TO: Assistant Manager/Manager
JOB PURPOSE: To support other members of staff in the provision of care for young people; ensuring young people retain as much of their dignity and individuality as possible as well as being involved in the general activities of the placement.

Essential:

5. Willingness to undertake training and continue personal development
6. Full driving licence

1. Diploma level 3 Health & Social Care with Children & Young People
2. 21 years of age or over
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Promote and ensure the good reputation of the placement and maintain high standards of cleanliness and homeliness.
2. Maintain and demonstrate a positive attitude towards young people, their families, other staff, Social Workers, visitors, neighbours and relevant others.
3. Support and encourage young people to attend to household chores and carry out assigned staff chores.
4. Assist in preparing and serving of meals and drinks and encourage healthy balanced diet.
5. Handle and monitor the placement’s petty cash records as required.
6. When not attending to young people’s needs, use the time constructively in undertaking domestic duties as requested/required, updating self with knowledge of care plans and/or other essential updates.
7. Maintain duty of care and safe working practice towards self, young people and other staff. Report immediately any clinical incident, any accident or near miss occurring within or outside of the placement in the course of duties. Report immediately any illness of an infectious nature.
8. Report immediately any faulty appliances, damaged furniture or equipment and any potential hazards.
9. Adhere to company procedures for reporting any illness or absence of self.
10. Administer medication to young people after adequate training.
11. Understand and ensure the implementation of the placement’s health and safety policy, emergency and fire procedures and all health and safety-related checks and processes.
12. Maintain accurate records of your attendance and ensure timesheets are received by Head Office.
13. Make self aware and act on information and advice contained in company circulars, memos and emails.
14. Drive company vehicles on trips and errands ensuring safely driven and within speed limits at all times.
15. Complete written and typed records, forms and reports accurately, honestly and within appropriate timescales.
16. Assist young people who have restricted cognitive abilities in achieving optimum activities of daily living.
17. Support the development of the process, practices and delivery of the young person’s care and progress.
18. Support and encourage young people’s independence by assisting with their independent living skills, personal hygiene etc.
19. Participate in social activities within and outside of the placement by interacting with young people and helping them with meaningful activities and interests.
20. Escort and supervise young people during social outings and trips from the placement.
21. Engage as a named Key worker for one or more young person, assisting senior and trained staff in providing care.
22. Monitor/observe young people who may be distressed and/or display challenging behaviour due to emotional, intellectual or mental health needs, reporting any changes.
23. Update self with all priority need care plans of young people and complete written daily records as instructed by senior staff.
24. Attend mandatory training sessions in conflict management including physical interventions, first aid, manual handling, health and safety, fire safety, food handling, infection control, child protection, mental health awareness, report writing, etc, and other training as required.
25. Participate in agreed systems of supervision, appraisal and individual performance review as an employee.
26. Participate and attend staff meetings and young people meetings.
27. Ensure the security of the placement is maintained at all times in line with company policy.
28. Demonstrate non-discriminatory practice in all aspects of work.
29. Maintain complete confidentiality of all matters concerning the placement, young people, staff and related work.
30. Adhere to all company policies and procedures and reporting processes.
31. Work to and understand the quality standards and guidance contained within the Children’s Home Regulations 2015 and other relevant guidance and legislation.
