Graduate Engineer/Works Co-ordinator – Highways
Salary: £27,000 - £32,000

We are looking for a Graduate Engineer to work within Oxfordshire and the South East region with a highly regarded main contractor on multiple schemes throughout the area.
Predominantly dealing with capital Highways Maintenance Schemes, CDM Highway Defects, and Planning.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the planning and completion of defects on the network and will also support all operational aspects of the maintenance contract. There will be an element of engineering works involved, so an engineering degree would be an advantage.
Responsibilities:
1. Categorise defects on a number of schemes and determine the works and materials needed to complete the works successfully.
2. Work closely with the planning team to ensure the works are carried out correctly while minimising costs.
3. Work alongside the Works Managers and Foreman to check on stock of materials and order if required, keeping up-to-date and accurate records.
4. Identify and allocate resources both internally and externally to carry out defect works in line with the planning team.
5. Understand the constraints, logistics, and any site-specific requirements that will impact defect completion.
6. Actively involved in the development of programmes for defect works that are discussed with the client and carried out.
7. Book all road space required for defect completion using in-house systems.
8. Attend monthly meetings with the client to discuss the delivery of defects.
9. Liaise with LA and Police as required to obtain consents for works.
10. Liaise with internal units and external TM teams to deliver the works when and where required.
11. Allocate and close defects on an internal works order management system.
12. Work with the Senior Engineer and Scheduler on major works schemes as and when required.
13. Build strong working relationships with clients and partners.
Key Skills and Qualifications:
1. Must be well-organised and able to prioritise workloads efficiently.
2. Able to organise programmes of work to deadlines; time management is key.
3. Qualification in highway construction or civil engineering.
4. Previous experience in defect rectification.
5. A good understanding of traffic management to Chapter 8 standards.
6. Good working knowledge of MS Office including Excel, Word, and SharePoint.
7. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
The role will come with a company vehicle, and you must have a full clean driving licence with a minimum of 2 years highway maintenance experience.
