Role Overview The Governance & Compliance Assistant will report directly to Head of Governance. In this role, you will be responsible for: Support to Function (70% of the role) Manage and monitor conflicts of interest and gifts and hospitality registers. Advise colleagues on the business case portal and manage its administration. Process legal requests and support the Head of Governance in managing contracts. Conduct legal horizon scanning and liaise with internal subject matter experts. Respond to Freedom of Information and data subject requests. Maintain the organisation's policy environment and data protection systems. Flag related risks to the Head of Governance and provide cover for the Data Protection team as required. Undertake additional tasks as requested by the Head of Governance. Governance Support (10% of the role) Assist in the organisation of governance meetings, including calendar planning, setting up physical/dial-in arrangements, agenda setting, and the distribution of meeting papers. Produce high-quality minutes and maintain the Board Software portal and contract. Provide cover for the Governance team as needed. Continuous Improvement (20% of the role) Identify opportunities for continuous improvement of team processes. Maintain automated team planners, decision logs, and relevant team intranet sites. Manage discrete projects and activities as requested by the Head of Governance. Liaise with colleagues to identify further opportunities for improvement. Skills and Experience Required To excel in this role, you will need to demonstrate: Strong administrative skills with a developed understanding of streamlined processes. Competent use of MS Office applications, including SharePoint, and familiarity with Board Software. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with experience in agenda preparation and minute taking. Strong organisational, time management, and planning skills. High accuracy and attention to detail. Ability to work autonomously and manage/influence others to meet deadlines and standards. Interest in learning new skills and knowledge. Experience in supporting teams, boards, and subcommittees or similar forums. Commitment to upholding confidentiality and organisational values.
