We are looking for a Critical Care Scientist to join our Broomfield site.
You will work collaboratively as part of a multi-professional team providing scientific expertise and knowledge of the physiology and technology involved in the delivery of care to critically ill patients.
You will use your various skills and adaptable approach to assist in the provision of high quality care and help support advanced clinical practice, development of clinical services and adoption of new technologies in response to scientific innovations.
Finally, you will get the opportunity to undertake both scientific and clinical roles, including working directly with patients and providing advice to medical, nursing and other staff in the critical care setting about the safe and effective use of medical devices.

• Perform pre-use safety checks, functionality testing, calibration and quality control on specialist clinical equipment to ensure accurate performance.
• Coordinate planned preventative maintenance, servicing and repair to ensure all work meets manufacturer’s recommendations.
• Provide a first line troubleshooting and maintenance service supporting the critical care team at the bedside with respect to all aspects of medical technology.
• Apply suitable fault finding techniques to diagnose problems with equipment, differentiating between user, environmental and system errors.
• Responsibility for maintaining blood gas analysis instruments throughout the Trust and point of care requirements within critical care.
• Manage and maintain satellite laboratories and Point Of Care Testing blood gas analysis for the trust.
• Processing patient samples and quality assurance material and acting on results where appropriate.
• Manage point of care database, updating and storing patient and user information.
• Provide scientific support for the transport / transfer of critically ill and anaesthetised patients.
