Nexus Studios is looking for a talented FX Artist to join us on a freelance basis for up to 8 weeks, working on an exciting automotive project directed by Shane Griffin. You’ll collaborate closely with the CG Lead to create high-quality fire, smoke, dust, and environmental effects in Houdini, ensuring seamless integration into the project’s vision. This is a great opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge branded content and deliver impactful results for a high-profile campaign.
What you'll be doing:
* Create High-Quality FX: Design and execute dynamic simulations in Houdini, focusing on pyro, smoke, dust, and other natural effects, ensuring they integrate seamlessly into the project.
* Collaborate with the FX Team: Work within a tight-knit FX team, reporting to the CG Lead and taking creative direction and notes from the Director to align FX with the project’s vision.
* Seamless Integration: Ensure that your effects fit smoothly into the overall shot, collaborating closely with other departments like lighting, animation, and compositing for cohesive delivery.
* Prototyping and Iteration: Rapidly prototype and iterate on FX ideas, solving technical challenges while maintaining a strong aesthetic vision and ensuring deadlines are met.
What you'll bring:
* Advanced Houdini Skills: Proficiency in Houdini for creating fire, smoke, dust, and other environmental FX, with an eye for detail and realism.
* Maya Pipeline Proficiency: An understanding of Maya workflows, with hands-on experience in caching and exporting FX elements to seamlessly integrate into Maya-based pipelines, ensuring smooth handoffs between departments.
* Branded Content/Advertising Experience: Previous experience working on branded content or advertising projects, delivering impactful FX within tight deadlines while maintaining high-quality standards.
* Creative and Technical Balance: Strong ability to balance creative vision with technical execution, producing visually compelling effects that align with the director’s goals and the project's aesthetic.
* Collaborative Team Player: Experience working closely within a team environment, taking direction, and collaborating to ensure the final product aligns with creative and technical goals.
* UK or Similar Timezone: Ideally based in the UK or a similar timezone to ensure smooth collaboration with our core team and facilitate efficient communication.
Nice-to-have:
* Experience using Arnold Renderer for shading, lighting, and rendering effects, ensuring photo-realistic results that integrate with the project’s visual style.
* Familiarity with Python or VEX scripting to automate tasks, optimize simulations, and troubleshoot any issues that arise during production.
