About the team you’ll be part of Ofcom’s Economics and Analytics Group is a dynamic, international team of around 120 applied microeconomists, data analysts, behavioural economists and finance experts. As experts in evidence, we help Ofcom by providing thought leadership, technical and sector expertise, and the economic and financial insights to shape policy and decisions. Working within the Economics & Analytics Group, the Financial Analytics team provides financial advice and insight, forensic accounting, and modelling expertise to projects across Ofcom. Our colleagues provide support on issues covering all the sectors we regulate (telecoms, post, broadcasting and online). The purpose and scope of the role The purpose of this role is to deliver high-quality financial analysis and economic insights that support Ofcom's regulatory objectives. As a Finance Analyst you will play a key role in ensuring that regulatory decisions are based on robust financial data, economic principles and where appropriate accounting standards. The scope of the role includes but is not limited to: Provide insight and financial analysis in relation to our stakeholders. Deliver financial and economic modelling to a high standard to further Ofcom’s thinking in relation to a variety of financial questions including price controls, profitability analysis and cost allocations. Monitoring, reviewing and challenging the financial information produced by our stakeholders. Ensure that all outputs are delivered in a clear and concise manner and is accessible to non-technical readers. Develop appropriate regulatory reporting within our Statements. Your Key Responsibilities You will collaborate with vibrant teams of economists, data analysts, policy professionals, market researchers, technologists and lawyers on projects spanning various sectors. Your responsibilities will include: Providing high-quality financial analysis on projects, exploring different perspectives, and addressing key policy issues. Apply expertise in accounting, economic modelling, or corporate finance to ensure informed decision-making across all regulated sectors. Gathering and assessing robust data and evidence to support your analysis. Producing clear and well-reasoned documents, including publications. Communicating your work effectively in presentations, meetings and engaging with external stakeholders. Collaborating with senior colleagues and multidisciplinary teams to deliver impactful outcomes The skills, knowledge and experience you’ll need for success Job-based skills Ability to apply learned financial concepts real-world scenarios within a consultancy, regulator, competition or consumer authority, government department, academia, research institute or regulated company. You will need to be able to apply your technical knowledge to new situations and have an aptitude for developing your knowledge of other areas of finance, accounting or economics where required. Intellectual curiosity to apply analytical approaches necessary to identify, investigate and resolve financial issues. Ability to present complex analysis in a clear, straightforward manner into a focused document. Positive approach to collaboration, showing an interest in the views and perspectives of others, both within project teams and with internal and external stakeholders. Ability to work independently, planning time effectively and prioritising multiple tasks. A degree or post-graduate qualification in a finance or economics related field and/or equivalent professional qualification such as CIMA, ACA or CFA.
