POSITION SPECIFICATION
Job title: Area Supervisor
Salary: £46,000 (DOE) + South Weighting - £4128 (Gas Safe £1500, HV Switch £1000 & 18th Edition £1000), on call and on call supervisor
Location: South Based.
Leading independent energy specialist Ylem Energy is recruiting for an Area Supervisor to join its expanding team. With over a quarter of a century's experience in specialist independent generation systems, Ylem Energy has developed an enviable array of systems and services that benefit its clients' energy requirements and help reduce the emission of harmful greenhouse gases.
Reporting to the Operations Manager for your area in the first instance, you should direct any queries or requirements you have through them. In their absence, you should report to the Operations Director.
You will also work closely with the UK Operations, Projects, HSQE, and HR departments in order to achieve the aims set out below and to manage the staff reporting to you.
Department Objectives
1. Provide flexible and effective support to the Projects Department to ensure development commissioning is progressed to exacting timescale and budget.
2. To maximise electrical production and reduce operational costs by taking responsibility (where this is economically and tactically beneficial) for the operation and maintenance of all plant and equipment within your control. Key to this will be our ability to operate and maintain our own and clients' solar, energy storage equipment, generating sets, and gas processing plant.
3. To ensure the operation and maintenance of all operational solar, energy storage, generators, plant, and gas systems to achieve maximum, reliable, and safe electrical output.
4. The aim of the Company is to develop a successful, sustainable, and profitable business based on energy storage, solar and gas utilisation.
The company is looking for safe, clean, and well-run sites, which meet the budgetary and performance targets.
Main Responsibilities
1. A commitment to Health & Safety and Environmental practices following all procedures and using your own judgement.
2. Provide absence cover for the Operations Manager when required. Refer to this job description for details of duties.
3. Ensure that site operations remain in compliance with all relevant site contracts including (but not limited to) Site Waste Licences, Pollution Prevention Control, Leases, and all Electrical Agreements.
4. Day to day operations of gas fields, reciprocating assets, solar, energy storage, and gas peakers on assigned sites in order to achieve maximum safe electrical output and gas control.
5. Maintenance of all mechanical and electrical plant (subject to training and competency).
6. Provide 24-hour emergency call out cover to respond to plant failures.
7. Provide efficient supervision, coordination, and guidance of the technicians in assigned area.
8. A commitment to continuous enhancement of skills and knowledge.
9. Reducing the company’s reliance on contractors wherever this is economically prudent to do so.
10. Oil condition management.
Key Tasks
1. Work within the constraints of the company’s H&S and quality systems.
2. Commitment to training to enhance knowledge and skills with regard to Health & Safety and Environmental Protection.
3. Completion of issues raised by Health and Safety Inspections.
4. Deal directly with spillages using pollution prevention equipment and report where required.
5. Field support of Area Technicians as required.
6. Contractor supervision ensuring adherence to Company Policies and Procedures.
7. Utilisation and compliance of the company’s operations and maintenance procedures, manuals, record keeping, and stock control systems.
8. Maintenance and repair of all mechanical, electrical, PV and storage plant and associated equipment.
9. Training, support, and supervision of Technicians to undertake mechanical/electrical maintenance and fault finding.
10. Ensure that all documentation/records are completed accurately and within the required timescales.
11. Supervision of spares ordering and stock control.
12. Gas field monitoring, maintenance, and repair.
13. Showing the company in a good light by maintaining a clean, well-run site always.
14. Avoid unnecessary expenditure by using skills and tools available within the company and minimising reliance on contractors.
15. Attendance in commissioning plant and acceptance of plant & sites at handover to operations.
16. Completion of outstanding works raised by site audits.
17. Ensure area company vehicles are maintained and driven to manufacturer’s specification and company standards.
18. Liaising with clients and site Management on a day to day basis.
19. Any reasonable task required by the management in the exercising of its goals.
Knowledge/Experience
1. Experience of supervision of individual and team working.
2. Recognised level of skill in either a mechanical or electrical skill.
3. Experience with Landfill Gas and associated activities.
4. Experience with Peaking plant and its trading operation.
5. Experience with Solar generating plant and its seasonal operation.
6. Computer literate.
7. Hold full UK drivers licence for driving manual small/medium sized van.

Problem Solving
You will work alone or supervise Technicians on a frequent basis. You will be expected to deal with any problems you may encounter by finding safe and cost-effective solutions. You will be expected to make routine decisions alone. For any non-routine decisions which will have a major impact on your site or changes to standard operating procedures, you would be expected to discuss with your Area Manager (or Operations Director during periods of absence).
Performance
Your performance will be measured by:
1. The amount of down time of generators.
2. The amount of electricity your sites produce.
3. The compliance of the facilities with the contractual, regulatory, and industry standard obligations.
4. The availability of Peaking site generation.
5. The performance of PV assets vs modelled expectations.
6. The maximum stable gas yield available for production or gas control.
7. Record keeping.
8. Assessments from your Manager.
9. Completion of additional task & goal allocation.
10. Periodic Performance & Development Review - ‘Appraisal’.
