INDEPENDENT ASSESSOR OF PSNI RECRUITMENT VETTING
The Department of Justice is seeking to appoint an Independent Assessor of PSNI Recruitment Vetting.
The Independent Assessor is appointed by the Minister of Justice to operate an appeals procedure for applicants to the PSNI who have been disqualified from appointment on vetting grounds.
The Independent Assessor of PSNI Recruitment Vetting is established under the Police (Recruitment) (Northern Ireland) Regulations 2001. The Independent Assessor provides an appeals mechanism for candidates who have been disqualified on grounds of vetting, for appointment to the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI).
The role is classified as an Independent Statutory Office Holder and is a public appointment made by the Minister of Justice and regulated by the Commissioner for Public Appointments for Northern Ireland.
It is a requirement that the person appointed as Independent Assessor shall have held judicial office within any part of the United Kingdom.
The Independent Assessor is appointed for a term of four years. The maximum number of terms that the Independent Assessor can serve is two. There is no automatic reappointment to the role and therefore, should the Independent Assessor wish to serve a second term, they are required to reapply for the role.
Remuneration for the Independent Assessor is £8,250 gross per annum. Plus per diem fees payable in accordance with the fees schedule for judicial office holders in Northern Ireland, with approximately 12 judicial sitting days per annum.
