We are looking to welcome applications for Consultants to join our dynamic and rapidly evolving team of acute physicians. We are especially interested in candidates who are keen to take on a leadership role with exciting management opportunities, supported by our executive team. We have a trust commitment to expand the numbers of our Acute Physicians in accordance with an exciting development of the medical take which is supported by other medical specialities.
We have a permanent role available and a fixed term contract for 24 months, please indicate your preference upon application.
Main duties of the job
We are looking to appoint Acute Physicians (or General Physicians with interest in Acute Medicine) to work with our dynamic teams based at York HospitalThese are 10 PA posts, based in Medicine Care Group, York Hospital. There is the potential to subsequently increase to 12PA subject to agreement with Clinical Director, all applicants will have the opportunities to develop specialist skills.
The post holder will join a team of Acute Physicians and Acute Geriatricians who provide senior clinical leadership and daily ward round on the Acute Medical Units and Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC)
York Hospital provides a full range of inpatient and outpatient services. The post holder will take an active role in specialty care of inpatients and will also participate in the General Medicine on call rota at the site. The department is part of a care group wide transformation which has allowed us to develop our Same Day Emergency Care to control assessment of patients and flow into the bed base, working closely with colleagues in Emergency Medicine and General Practice. Applicants with a particular interest in Emergency Medicine in-reach would be strongly encouraged to apply.
The acute service at York includes both an Emergency Assessment Unit & an Acute Medical Unit. Multi-disciplinary working is at the heart of our philosophy and applicants will find our service is well resourced with input from colleagues across disciplines.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Hold a medical qualification registered with the GMC
* Hold license to practise with the General Medical Council
* Entry on the GMC Specialist Register in Emergency Medicine or Acute Medicine via; - CCT (proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of interview) - CESR (within 6 months of completing a training programme recognised for the award of CCT or equivalent)
* An appropriate higher qualification - MRCP or equivalent
* Valid ALS certificate or equivalent
* MD or equivalent Higher Degree or evidence of relevant research
* Ability to supervise postgraduate research
* Substantive NHS experience
Clinical Practice / Competence
* Ability to demonstrate clinical experience and skill in managing acute medical inpatients
* Knowledge of good medical practice and the General Medical Council requirements
* Experience of assessing and managing acutely unwell medical and elderly patients
* Demonstrates a sound knowledge of clinical governance practice
Mentoring and Teaching
* Experience of teaching and supervising undergraduate and post graduate trainees
* Ability to teach clinical skills
* Experience of undertaking audits and presenting their findings
Leadership
* Is able and willing to take on a leadership role
* Ability to contribute to change management agenda and take a leading role
* Familiarity within issues of service organisation and development
