As a UX UI Designer at Fera you will work alongside developers, test engineers and product managers on the upgrade and enhancement of existing products, and development of new products, contributing to one or more key development projects at any time. Tasks related to ongoing support, including minor requests for change, will also be required, but will be a smaller part of the role.
Your role will be to provide guidance on UX/UI through all stages of product development and enhancement. You will work closely with the Product/Project Manager to understand user requirements; create visual designs for new products as required and create UI design for new products, features, pages; create wireframes or mockups to share designs; develop and maintain style guides for new products; collaborate with developers to ensure designs are implemented accurately, and that accessibility standards are met; collaborate with test engineers to assist with UI and accessibility testing; Carry our Accessibility audits. You will also be asked to advise or support Front-end developers when they are designing and implementing UI for existing products.
What you’ll be doing:
* Work on one or more key development projects, using Kanban or Scrum, depending on project.
* Undertake UX and UI design for new products, working closely with the Product/delivery manager (PM) to ensure all user requirements are considered.
* Create prototypes and/or wireframes to demonstrate designs to stakeholders if required and PM for agreement.
* Maintain ongoing communication and work closely with graphic designer in Fera’s Marketing Team for input, advice and guidance on UX/web design.
* Carry out useability testing as required. Be prepared to work with stakeholders and PM to refine designs as necessary.
* Create wireframes and provide enough detail for developers to ensure designs can be implemented accurately and accessibility standards can be met.
* Collaborate with developers throughout development to ensure implementation of UI is to the appropriate standard, and work closely with test engineers to define acceptance criteria for UI. Carry out robust and constructive UI testing, in collaboration with test engineers where required.
* Have a good understanding/knowledge of WCAG web accessibility standards.
What we’re looking for:
* An experienced UX/UI designer with excellent visual design skills and a good eye for detail. A broad skill set in both UI and UX design is a must.
* Excellent communication skills and experience of working with development teams during all stages of product development; familiar with WCAG web accessibility standards is essential.
* Experience of designing UI to make large or complex data available and understandable for users who are not experts in the data.
* A basic understanding of HTML, CSS, Sass is required to understand challenges developers may face in implementation, to collaborate effectively to overcome them.
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and the ability to translate a client’s ideas into a working IT solution.
* Proficiency in design tools, wireframing, prototyping tools and version control tools.
* Strong understanding of visual design principles.
