NES Fircroft is collaborating with a leading vinyl producer at their Newton Aycliffe site, looking for an Electrical Technician to work with them on a permanent basis.
Main Role Purpose:
To maintain electrical equipment and instrumentation, ensuring the reliable and safe operation of the PVC Resin plants (a top-tier COMAH site), as well as supporting workshops and offices.
In the event of a breakdown, the Technician will be responsible for diagnosing the fault and completing repairs with minimal impact on production and SHE (Safety, Health, and Environment).
The Technician will conduct routine testing of safety-critical equipment, participate in small projects and commissioning, and collaborate with other maintenance and production team members.
Key Responsibilities, Accountabilities, Skills, and Experience:
1. Follow company electrical isolation practices for mechanical and electrical maintenance.
2. Test for dead for permits to work and ensure safe work practices.
3. Adapt to the role and prioritize work against routine schedules.
4. Respond to out-of-hours emergency calls when necessary.
5. Advise on local electrical maintenance matters.
6. Liaise directly with managers and engineers regarding production/operation issues.
7. Be proactive in fault finding and general maintenance.
8. Identify plant improvement opportunities proactively.
9. Perform portable electrical appliance testing and RCDs and EMLs.
10. Monitor asset integrity and suggest improvements to the asset engineer.
Requirements:
1. A good understanding of electrical equipment/distribution up to 415V, all types of motor starting (AC only), with the ability to install, fault find, inspect, test, and repair.
2. Proficiency in reading electrical/instrument schematic/loop drawings.
3. Experience using test equipment to test, fault find, and calibrate electrical and instrument systems, including instruments measuring pressure, level, flow, temperature, and gas detection.
4. High commitment to safety, health, and the environment, and effective work performance.
5. Educated to HNC level or equivalent in an Electrical/Instrumentation discipline.
6. Experience working in high hazard environments (COMAH).
7. Fully conversant with change management processes and able to read drawings and provide relevant documentation.
8. Understanding of various PVC production processes is preferable.
9. High standards of work and attention to detail, with good diagnostic skills.
10. Team player with a flexible approach to work, able to work independently and take the lead when required.
