Job Description:
This role oversees the Security Engineering Centre of Excellence, shaping the strategic direction of the federated engineering community delivering BT's security capabilities to maximize effectiveness and efficiency of the overall ecosystem and optimizing working with commercial security delivery in our strategy for BT to consume the services we sell to customers.
This role can be based in the following locations and follows hybrid working: Adastral Park, Belfast, Birmingham, Bristol, London or Manchester (Some international travel required)
What you'll be doing
1. Provides operational excellence and discipline in security engineering, leveraging latest agile and platform engineering approaches to maximize the effectiveness of the federated security engineering community.
2. Mentors, coaches, and manages several teams to develop current and future team capabilities and ensure performance in delivering the most impactful features to both internal and external users of the BT team.
3. Leads the federated teams in adopting relevant new technologies, tools, methods and processes that progressively advances service capabilities to its different stakeholders.
4. Defines the governance that defines the federated model of security engineering in collaboration with all stakeholders and oversees its operation and effectiveness.
5. Oversees engineering and operational excellence initiatives, implementing metrics and processes for regular assessment and improvement through the implementation of processes and tools supporting multiple platforms.
6. Ensures team standards of engineering and operational excellence are upheld, establishing metrics and processes for regular assessment and improvement through the creation and implementation of processes and tools supporting multiple platforms.
7. Drives an engineering culture that supports innovation and creativity while delivering high quality products with predictability and reliability.
8. Builds 'best-in-class' engineering for services by ensuring that the services and the components are well-defined and modularised, secure, reliable, diagnosable, actively monitored and reusable.
9. Leads the evaluation and implementation of high-quality tools and automation processes to support continuous delivery and developer productivity.
10. Ensures the development and adoption of a DevOps mindset across the engineering teams.
11. Leads the implementation of continuous improvement opportunities to improve the software engineering team processes.
12. Oversees the end to end innovation, development and testing ecosystems to ensure federated engineering can be integrated in a holistic way.
13. Drives a culture of automated software testing, behaviour driven development and ensuring security is front of mind to ensure our security capabilities are exemplars of compliance to our security standards and guidance.
Skills Required for the Role
* Ability to communicate and influence effective in influencing strategic direction at director level as well as with external partners/industry.
* Inspiring communicator: experience presenting to and influencing senior audiences.
* Deep expertise in modern software engineering, agile techniques and integrating capabilities into a wider ecosystem.
* Understanding of Cloud Computing, SaaS services, Service Oriented Architectures and integration to build a modern cloud ecosystem.
* Ability to evaluate potential ideas against business goals and strategy.
* Experience leading collaborative ways of working and continuous improvement.
* Great communicator in explaining processes and rationale.
Experience Required for the Role
* At least 2 years experience in a senior software/platform engineering role.
* Experience of agile development, CI/CT/CD pipelines and behaviour driven development.
* Experience in managing diverse teams across multiple geographies.
* Demonstrate inclusive leadership and a growth mindset.
* An awareness of IT security and understanding of the importance of building security early into engineering delivery.
* Typically qualified to degree level, or equivalent professional experience in Computer Science, Engineering, or related degree.
* Appropriate software engineers qualifications.
* Member of a professional body e.g. British Computing Society.
