Hilden Grange School is a co-educational preparatory day school for children aged 3-13 years. The school was founded in 1929 and is now part of Inspired Education. At Hilden Grange we are dedicated to giving our children a broad and balanced education in a supportive and stimulating environment where every child’s potential can be realised in academic, creative, physical and spiritual areas. We are now looking to recruit an inspiring and passionate Art Teacher from April 2025. This is a part time role (two days a week) which will involve teaching Art across Key Stage 2 and lower Key Stage 3.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. To oversee the running of the department in line with school policy.
2. To provide support and advice to members of the department and instill the aims and objectives of the department and the school.
3. To teach and manage the Art curriculum throughout the school, including the development and monitoring of LTPs and MTPs within the department.
4. Contribute to raising standards of attainment by preparing and teaching stimulating lessons of a high standard and according to pupils’ needs.
5. Follow programmes of study, carrying out necessary assessments, keeping required records and monitoring pupils in accordance with agreed department and school policies.
6. Facilitate and encourage a learning experience which provides pupils with the opportunity to develop self-esteem and interpersonal skills.
7. Review, monitor and evaluate own practice, ensuring that teaching is academically rigorous, innovative and creative and provide feedback to the SLT.
8. Contribute to and enrich the extra-curricular programme.
9. Follow all codes of practice in relation to the school’s Behaviour, Discipline and Exclusion policy and pastoral care ethos.
10. Ensure the well-being of all pupils by following health and safety regulations including the reporting of accidents.
11. Prepare children for Art Scholarships to future schools.
12. Organise and lead the school’s annual Creative Arts Week, liaising with SLT and EVC.
13. Prepare school reports and reports for external agencies as requested by the Head or SLT.
14. Keep informed of current developments within the relevant subject curriculum.
15. To manage the departmental budget.
16. To manage department resources.
17. To liaise with the Drama and Music Departments in respect of preparation for productions and to enhance cross-curricular opportunities.
18. To lead departmental evaluations and contribute to whole school evaluation and development planning.
19. To attend HOD meetings.
20. To assist in the induction of new members of staff within the department.
21. To perform any reasonable task at the request of the Head.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:
Qualifications:
1. Teacher qualification together with Qualified Teacher Status.
2. Honours degree in a relevant subject.
Experience:
1. Experience of teaching pupils in this age range.
2. An understanding of the public school examination system in respect of Art scholarship examinations.
3. Experience of working in the independent sector would be beneficial.
4. The ability to offer another teaching subject would also be an advantage.
Skills:
1. Use an appropriate range of teaching and learning strategies.
2. A confident and competent user of IT.
3. Good organisational skills.
4. Good interpersonal skills/effective communicator.
Knowledge:
1. Subject knowledge sufficient to challenge able students and achieve high outcomes.
2. A good understanding of curricular developments.
