Key Duties & Responsibilities: Reception of clinical specimens, answering telephone and handling routine enquiries under supervision. Dealing with general laboratory enquiries. Process the clinical specimens (swabs/tissues/bodily fluids) received and to undertake the related tasks in the various sections of the laboratory, leading to the reporting and interpretation of results in accordance with agreed policies and standard operating procedures (SOPs). Processing clinical specimens, these may include a range of swabs, body fluids, and blood samples Setting up a range of routine automated and manual laboratory tests. Utilise both manual and automated techniques and platforms used across all areas of the laboratory. Be competent to work, in rotation, in all Microbiology and Virology sections and to be flexible in regularly covering vacancies in other sections. Interpret and report on routine Bacteriology and Virology laboratory tests, in accordance with laboratory protocols and commensurate with grade. Ensure a sound knowledge of the laboratory IT system, and to perform data entry and specimen and result enquiry, as appropriate. Assist in the production and dissemination of laboratory reports, data and statistics, including the issuing of preliminary results by phone or computer, and being aware of priorities of reports.
