An opportunity has arisen in Bettys Purchasing Team and we are looking for a Giftware and Packaging Buyer on a 13-month fixed-term basis, covering maternity leave. This role will be based at our Craft Bakery in Harrogate where we produce a range of speciality breads, cakes, confectionery and quality seasonal products. This is a full-time role working 37.5 hours or 34 hours over 4 days, with 2-3 core days in the office and the option to work from home. As a Giftware and Packaging Buyer you will be responsible for a budget of up to £2 million. You will purchase and manage all the packaging and giftware required by Bettys (Bakery, branches, Bettys by post and Cookery School).
Your key responsibilities will include:
1. Conducting market research to identify trends, pricing, and product availability, staying informed about industry developments.
2. Gathering requirements, conducting tenders, negotiating terms, and developing value-for-money contracts.
3. Maximising supply chain efficiencies, ensuring the best value while protecting product quality.
4. Onboarding suppliers, conducting due diligence, and maintaining strong supplier relationships.
5. Ensuring timely deliveries and quality products, as well as managing risks throughout the supply chain.
6. Working with the planning team to forecast, analyse and plan the demand for packaging in line with future business volume requirements.
7. Collaborating with other business areas to drive innovation and continuous improvements of packaging and giftware.
In addition, you will manage the Junior Buyer who predominantly is responsible for managing stock levels for BCS (Bettys Central Supplies) and co-packers as well as NPD/EPD on small equipment for BCS.
About you
We are looking for the following:
* Experience in Procurement/Buying/Commercial related role – market and trend analysis, supplier management, sourcing & tender processes.
* Experience of negotiating with suppliers and raising requisitions/purchase orders.
* High levels of commerciality.
* Proficiency in using MRP systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
* Strong analytical skills and attention to detail whilst managing multiple tasks.
* Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to address challenges and find creative solutions.
* Degree plus CIPS level 4 or higher in Procurement and Supply (desirable not essential).
* Experience in Packaging/Giftware buying gained in the Food and Beverage industry (desirable not essential).
