Band 6 Specialist Clinical Technologist (Clinical Engineering)
An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Clinical Engineering team for a Clinical Technologist in the care of medical equipment in the Critical Care areas of the Trust.
The post is based in Clinical Engineering, where there are over twenty technologists providing a maintenance and repair service for approximately 16,000 medical devices across 6 sites - Royal Berkshire Hospital, Prince Charles Eye Unit (Windsor), Windsor Dialysis Unit, Bracknell Health Space, Townlands Hospital (Henley), and West Berks Community Hospital (Thatcham).
Main duties of the job
This post holder will have specialist responsibility for critical care equipment, and will also involve providing guidance and supervision, including elements of training, to other technologists to enable them to provide back-up support.
You will work closely with critical care clinicians and Clinical Scientists to ensure that devices are maintained and repaired to appropriate standards. Travel to other sites will be required to ensure maintenance is carried out at each location.
The successful candidate will be experienced in maintaining and testing a range of devices from a variety of suppliers. It is essential that candidates have experience and evidence of training in the support of patient monitoring equipment.
Some additional training may be available to ensure that all makes and models can be incorporated into the maintenance programme. A degree in engineering or science is a pre-requisite.
Registration as a Clinical Technologist is required (or you are eligible to apply for registration within 6 months of starting in post).
Job responsibilities
This post involves the repair, service, and support of medical devices within the Trust, and the ability to liaise with Clinical Staff when required.
The Specialist Technologist will be responsible for ensuring that the equipment operates effectively and safely with minimum downtime.
The ability to deliver a comprehensive service for specialised high-risk critical devices and cover for an extensive range of medical devices in the Trust is essential.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Degree Standard of education or equivalent in a relevant subject area (engineering or science)
Experience
* Significant experience of repair, maintenance and QA of Medical Devices
* Apply multidisciplinary working skills
Registration
* Membership of a relevant professional body and Registration as Clinical Technologist (RCT)
Knowledge
* Knowledge of risk management, medical devices management, and other relevant standards. General Health and Safety regulations
Information Technology
* Basic IT skills and ability to use standard packages, e.g., Microsoft Office
* Knowledge and experience of using Medical Equipment Management Software
Other
* Full driving licence
