Fugro are recruiting for a Geophysics Team Leader to join our world leading geophysical survey department based at our waterfront office in Portchester on the UK’s south coast. As a Geophysics Team Leader, you will be responsible for managing a team of geophysicists, including Senior and Project Geophysicists, to ensure that data deliverables are produced to a high level of quality and in a timely manner. They work with the Hydrographic Team Leader, Project Managers and Report Project Managers to ensure that sufficient resources are assigned to each project.
The Geophysics Team Leader leads, coaches and mentors other members of the team, promoting quality and ensuring that Fugro deliver industry-leading data to our clients. This is an excellent opportunity for you to gain exposure to a variety of projects and data types; working in a range of markets (including renewables, UXO, pipeline inspection) and overseeing different geophysical data types. Ideal for individuals seeking to advance into leadership roles while staying actively engaged in technical aspects of their work.
You’ll collaborate closely with various members of the project team, including the client, Client Deliverables Manager, Hydrographic Team Leader, Project and Commercial Managers, Report Project Managers, vessel crew, and fellow geophysicists. You will be responsible for leading the geophysics team, providing technical training and support and ensuring that projects are suitably resourced.
Key Responsibilities:
* Support the analysis and interpretation of geophysical data from various sources, such as sub-bottom profilers, side scan sonar, and magnetometers, to extract meaningful information about subsurface and seafloor conditions;
* Ensure high-quality data throughout all phases of the project, including acquisition, processing, interpretation, and reporting, by providing adequate project support;
* Plan relevant training to ensure the geophysics team remains highly competent and up-to-date with industry advancements;
* Coach and mentor senior team members, fostering professional growth and knowledge sharing;
* Handle client issues and engage in strategic discussions to ensure the successful delivery of geophysical data;
* Attend and chair meetings, including Weekly Managers meetings, Commercial Kick-off meetings, Lessons Learned meetings, Monthly CDD meetings, etc., to drive collaboration and progress;
* Track project progress, resource allocation, and key deadlines to ensure timely delivery of results;
* Recruit new talents to join our growing team, contributing to our innovative spirit;
* Network and communicate with regional counterparts to ensure cooperation and alignment on shared goals.
Minimum Requirements:
* A Bachelor’s degree or higher in Geophysics or closely related subject with 8 to 15 years of experience;
* A strong knowledge and experience of marine geophysical survey techniques, in relation to both data acquisition, processing and interpretation;
* Good verbal and written English language skills;
* An ability to communicate clearly with colleagues and clients;
* Confidence working under pressure to tight deadlines;
* A high attention to detail, quality and safety;
* Prior management and supervision experience;
* Experience in training, coaching and mentoring others;
* Experience and confidence in liaising with clients;
* Offshore/practical experience in oil and gas, ocean science, renewables and/or survey industries;
* Experience in Oasis montaj, SonarWiz, Kingdom Suite, ArcGIS Pro.
