Key Result Areas: Clinical To be a safe and effective practitioner, able to provide patients and relatives with high quality nursing care. The role will include, but not limited to, the ability to provide the following specialist dermatological treatment programmes; undertaking and assisting with minor surgical procedures, photodynamic therapy, patient education, iontophoresis and phototherapy. Following appropriate in-house training and completion of competencies. Participate in the care of Dermatology patients, managed under and alongside Dermatology Consultants and Senior Nursing staff. Ensure both patients physical and psychological needs are identified. Effectively assess, plan, and implement effective treatment regimes and evaluate care, ensure all nursing assessments are updated. Ensure that the highest standard of evidence-based care is delivered and maintained throughout the whole of the Dermatology Department in accordance with Trust policies, procedures and guidelines. To have a sound understanding of the discharge process and implement this, on completion of treatment programme. Refer back to Dermatology Consultant or other multi-disciplinary services as required. Participate in activities to improve the quality, productivity and effectiveness of care in response to local and national policies and initiatives To create a learning environment for all grades of staff and act as a mentor and assessor of competence when appropriately qualified/trained and a preceptor for newly registered staff Teaching, supervision and support of junior members of staff. Demonstrate knowledge and skills in the education of the patient and their significant others. Communication To develop and maintain effective communication with patients, relatives and carers Promote patient involvement in care planning, implementing and sustaining communication systems to keep patients and their relatives/families informed of treatment and progress To gain informed consent for treatment, in accordance with Trust policy. This will frequently involve communication with patients, carers or relatives who have complex emotional, cultural, religious, physical and psychological conditions/ needs e.g. deafness, dysphasia, depression, chronic pain, etc. and will require expert use of verbal and non-verbal communication tools. This will include working with interpreters. Actively encourage feedback from patients and carers. To develop and maintain effective communication links with all levels of staff within the Trust and external agencies. Maintain and promote patient confidentiality in line with Trust policy & procedures To contribute towards the development of junior staff and students through supervision, teaching and practice.
