Job Title: Prototype Build Technician
Pay Rate: £22 per hour
Contract: Outside IR35
At E-PPL, we're looking for skilled and enthusiastic Mechanical, Electrical Technicians (MET) to join our client’s team. This is an exciting opportunity for individuals to play a key role in the development of cutting-edge technology within the automotive sector, specifically in the electric vehicle (EV) and prototype vehicle development space.
As a MET Technician, you will be integral to the prototype build process, supporting the assembly, testing, and calibration of vehicle systems. You will be responsible for mechanical and electrical vehicle modifications, diagnostics, and repairs, working on complex automotive systems including powertrains, ECU software installations, battery management systems (BMS), and the integration of advanced EV control systems. This is a fantastic opportunity to work at the forefront of automotive innovation.
Key Responsibilities:
•Component Installation and Removal: Install, remove, and reassemble electric and mechanical vehicle components, including but not limited to powertrain systems, batteries, suspension, brakes, transmissions, and control systems.
•Electrical Systems Testing and Measurement: Perform detailed electrical measurements and inspections, including wiring harness checks, ECU functionality, voltage and current diagnostics, and circuit continuity. Work with high-voltage systems and BMS (Battery Management Systems).
•Fault Diagnosis and Troubleshooting: Utilize diagnostic tools to identify faults in both mechanical and electrical vehicle systems. Provide detailed technical feedback and recommendations for repairs and improvements to engineers.
•Vehicle Calibration: Calibrate and configure electric vehicle control systems, including regenerative braking systems, powertrain controllers, battery charging systems, and ECU software updates.
•Prototype Vehicle Support: Work directly on prototype vehicles, supporting the integration and testing of new vehicle technologies. Collaborate with engineers to validate and improve pre-production models.
•Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of tasks completed, modifications made, and issues identified. Report findings to senior engineers and contribute to design reviews.
•General Mechanical Tasks: Support the assembly and mechanical servicing of vehicles, including suspension, brake, powertrain, and transmission systems as needed.
Requirements
•Experience & Qualifications:
oProven experience as a Mechanic, Technician, or Auto Electrician, with a strong background in both mechanical and electrical vehicle systems.
oLevel 4 NVQ (or equivalent) in an electrical-related field, such as Electric Vehicle Systems, Automotive Engineering, or Mechatronics.
oExperience working on pre-production vehicles, particularly within the electric vehicle sector, is highly desirable but not essential.
oKnowledge of high-voltage vehicle systems, including battery packs, inverters, DC-DC converters, and on-board charging systems.
oFamiliarity with electrical testing equipment (multimeters, oscilloscopes, diagnostic tools) and the ability to interpret complex circuit diagrams.
oExperience with automotive software systems and ECU flashing/updating is advantageous.
•Technical Skills:
oHands-on experience with mechanical systems such as suspension, braking systems, drivetrain, and transmission.
oProficiency in troubleshooting electrical systems in both low and high-voltage environments.
oUnderstanding of automotive control systems, including embedded software, sensors, and actuators used in modern vehicles.
oExperience with wiring schematics and familiarity with automotive standards (ISO, IEC, etc.).
oAbility to read and interpret technical manuals, vehicle service documentation, and engineering drawings.
•Personal Skills:
oFull UK driving license, with the ability to transport and operate vehicles on-site as required.
oStrong attention to detail with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues efficiently.
oGood communication skills to collaborate with engineers and other technical teams.
oProactive, with the ability to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
