Owing to our continued success and expansion in North West London, we are recruiting for an English teacher.
Heartwood House (formally known as Red Balloon) is a workplace like no other, where you will feel supported and empowered to work with young people and fulfil your professional goals, without being constrained by the demands of the mainstream system. We are a small and nurturing community, who take staff development and wellbeing as seriously as we do that of the students.
At Heartwood House, we offer full-time provision for students who have self-excluded from mainstream school for various reasons. Our approach puts wellbeing at the core of our students’ education experience, with a strong emphasis on mental health, personal development and positive social interaction alongside academic teaching.
Students hold an absolute right to be treated with respect and care, and that right is not contingent upon their behaviour or the quality of their academic performance. Each member of our Centre family agrees to our policy of unconditional positive regard – every member of the community (staff or student) should always treat others with respect and dignity, regardless of the situation.
Teaching takes place in small groups. Lessons are planned around students’ individual needs and interests. As a teacher, this provides the unique opportunity to really get to know each student and work with them in a manner that best supports each of them as an individual.
All staff are interested in and actively involved in the wellbeing of all students, and mental health support and personal development are an integral part of the entire day, not just restricted to designated therapy sessions
We provide academic teaching from Entry Level to GCSE in subjects of students’ interest or which are helpful to them in their future plans. Nearly all students will study English, Maths, Science and Art as a minimum, and most study additional subjects either in the centre or online.
