The hours are 18.30-21.30 Monday to Thursday and 18.30-22.00 Fridays.
We are looking for skilled, enthusiastic, reliable dentists to join our friendly and supportive team, to provide out of hours urgent dental care for the population of Oxfordshire.
This care is provided at East Oxford Dental Clinic, Oxford.
There is free onsite parking.
Applicants should have experience of working within NHS Primary Dental Service and have a NHS England provider number.
Main duties of the job
* Follow all elements of the Oxford Health Clinical Governance policies, particularly those relating to cross infection control, Health & Safety, patient confidentiality and data protection. All radiographs should be justified, reported and an appropriate recording made in the radiograph log book to maintain radiographic quality assurance.
* Participate in clinical audit and peer review programmes relating to activity undertaken for the OoH Dental Service.
* Undertake not to divulge to any third parties information relating to security access to the building, rooms, equipment and monies, as well as the OoH Dental Service telephone numbers at the clinic.
* Undertake not to remove from the clinic under any circumstances, any equipment or materials used within the OoH Dental Clinic as these remain the property of the Oxfordshire Community Dental Service at all times.
* Offer appropriate telephone advice or carry out a remote consultation to patients not offered a face to face contact if appropriate.
* Undertake to communicate any operational concerns regarding the performance of equipment, protocols and team members in the communications book if appropriate or directly with the operational lead.
* Agree for contact details to be held at the clinic and by OoH Service Lead and administrative staff to facilitate contact in the event of a request for working at short notice.
* Agree to give reasonable notice of the inability to work a rostered shift.
About us
Oxfordshire's emergency dental service provides urgent dental treatment to all patients living and visiting in the local area when normal primary care is closed. Operating between 18:30 to 21.30 Monday to Thursday, 18.30 to 22.00 Fridays and 09.00-18.00 across weekends and bank holidays. Patients access the service via 111. The team is made up of Dental receptions, Dental nurses and Dental officers. Reporting to the OOH Dental Operational Lead and Urgent Dental Care Manager.
Job responsibilities
To provide a full range of urgent dental care to any patient accessing the Oxfordshire Out of Hours Dental service, including priority groups, special needs children and adults, who after triaging are found to have a dental condition requiring immediate emergency care. Dentists will be expected to adhere to the prescribed clinical and administrative procedures.

* Obtain and verify a complete medical history for all patients.
* Obtain written informed, valid consent for all invasive dental procedures, including the taking of radiographs, from the patient or an adult with parental authority and give a treatment plan.
* Record all aspects of clinical examination, relevant medical history and treatment on the computerised patient management system provided.
* To only use those materials and equipment provided by the dental service for the treatment of patients. Treatment should be restricted to that necessary to relieve dental pain, arrest haemorrhage, stabilise a traumatised dentition or control the spread of dental infection which may be dangerous to the patient. Permanent restorations may be placed if their placement achieves any of the above objectives and is more efficacious than the placement of a temporary restoration.
* Complete all computerised and written records necessary for the reporting of clinical activity and to ensure the collection of all patient charges due.
The post holder will work weekday evening sessions (3.5 hours), weekend sessions (3 or 4 hours) and/or Bank Holiday sessions (4 hours) which will be allocated on a monthly rota basis. They will need to provide face to face dental treatment for patients with an urgent dental problem.

* Ability to diagnose, manage and treat urgent dental problems for both children and adults.
* Previous experience in working for urgent care dental services.
* Understanding of telephone triage.
* Previous experience in carrying out remote telephone and video consultations.
