Interim Senior Childcare Lawyer x 2 – Legal Services

There are 2 vacant positions. One role with a start date of 27 January 2025 and the other in mid-February 2025.
Basic DBS disclosure is listed as a requirement for this role.

Key Requirements:
1. Law Society admitted and Solicitor Regulatory Authority registered solicitor, Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives or Bar Standards Board registered barrister.
2. Specialist in an area of law as required. A thorough knowledge of that area of law, good advocacy skills and considerable experience in case management is essential along with demonstrable experience of working in a particular field.
3. Adequate experience of managing own workload.
4. Ability to absorb and interpret legislation, case law and procedures.
5. Ability to assimilate detailed and complex information and make judgments on the way that certain procedures have been followed.
6. Strong IT skills using Microsoft packages or equivalent (e.g. G Suite).
Key Responsibilities:
1. Oversee and manage a caseload in an area of law allocated.
2. Respond to requests for advice, representation etc, from Devon County Council employees.
3. Manage all aspects of court representation as required.
4. Advise and/or present to courts, meetings, members at formal appeal hearings or as required by the County Solicitor.
5. To determine appeals under the Internal Dispute Resolution Procedure of the Local Government Pension Scheme and various internal appeal procedures if required.
6. Take part in the Legal Services’ Out of Hours service to provide assistance to the Emergency Duty Team on matters of Childcare and Adult Social Care.
7. Any other duties appropriate to the grade as may be assigned by one of the Legal Service managers.
