Main duties of the job
We are currently looking to recruit a part-time Medical Receptionist to join our Practice. The successful candidate will be patient focused, a good team player and flexible in their approach, working for a busy medical centre.
We are looking for part-time support between 8am and 6.30pm weekdays. Additional hours may be needed when other receptionists are on leave or when the practice needs require it.
You will provide general assistance to the practice team and project a positive and friendly image to patients and other visitors, either in person or on the telephone. You will receive, assist and direct patients accessing the appropriate service or health care professional in a courteous, efficient and effective way. You will undertake a variety of administrative duties, and facilitate effective communication between patients, members of the primary health team and other associated healthcare agencies.

Brynhyfryd Medical Centre is a GP Training Practice. We are a purpose-built health centre with community-based services held at our premises.
You will be working with a team of GPs, Physician Associates, Pharmacists in addition to the administration support from other practice staff.
The Practice aims to provide a high level of primary healthcare to the local community, with the emphasis on the family and the active use of giving good medical advice to our patients that will empower them to both prevent illness and improve their standard of healthcare. It is our intention to promote a healthier lifestyle and to work in partnership with patients, families, community and service providers to involve them in decision-making and care provision.
Job responsibilities
1. Ensure an effective and efficient reception service is provided.
2. Book in patients if they have not used the Self Check-in system onto the clinical system.
3. Deal with general enquiries, explain procedures and make routine and follow-up appointments.
4. Communicate test results, ensuring accuracy.
5. Using your own judgment and communication skills ensure that patients with no prior appointment but who need urgent consultation are seen in a logical and non-disruptive manner.
6. Be aware of all the clinics that are operating now and in the future so that appropriate appointments can be made.
7. Explain practice arrangements and formal requirements to new patients and those seeking temporary cover and ensure procedures are completed.
8. Manage a busy switchboard, answering calls within 6 rings. Divert calls and take messages, ensuring accuracy of detail and prompt appropriate delivery. Be polite and helpful at all times. If a patient's behavior becomes unacceptable refer the call to your line manager.
9. Ensure that you provide an efficient, professional handover to the member of staff taking over from you before you leave your duty.
10. Enter requests for home visits onto the EMIS system ensuring careful recording of all relevant details.
11. Open and close premises if necessary, ensuring that the building is totally secured, internal lights are off and alarm activated when leaving. Follow locking up protocol.
Person Specification
Experience
* Previous receptionist experience or similar.
* Experience of working with the general public in a customer-facing role.
* Experience of dealing with enquiries.
* Experience of working in the NHS/Public Sector.
Qualifications
* Good level of literacy and numeracy.
* Good general level of education.
* GCSEs.
Knowledge
* Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
* Able to prioritise workload.
